I was just going post something similar, only asking if people thought the big turbo companies would design new kits around that engine, or just stick with the older style.

If the new Z comes out in 07, I may just pick up a new 06 while I still can. I want to go FI again next year with a new car, and I don't want to wait a MINIMUM of a year for the turbo co's to come up with a kit for an entirely new engine. Hell I think TN still hasn't released their REVUP kit, afaik....

The new HR motor is definitely better than the DE. But will companies even bother with designing a turbo kit for the HR in the 07/08 Z when the new redesigned Z will emerge in 09? That's only 2 yrs of target market for the HR in the current design. Seems like it would make sense to hold off on designing an HR turbo kit until the next gen Z comes out.

Did anyone else notice they're raising compression on the new motor?

From what ive read they have a new test mule in a junk yard in LA. Someone got into a fender bender. Needless to say its been gone through. They said it has "beefy" rods and expect nissan to come out with a TT option.

I dont see it happening...I dont think the aftermarket is going to make a specific design for that engine.

The 287 Motor only had a 3 Year run (except for 5AT), the Revvup only has a 1 year run and even if this motor has a 2 year run, I am sure there will be kits for it. There will be THOUSANDS of cars sold with this set up both from Zs and Gs. Who's not to say that this motor wont make an appearance in the next Z too as an option. I think the only companies that will have problems are those wishing to adapt ST and SC kits.

The aftermarket has been slow to roll out mods for the RevUp engines. And I'm interested if the completely new HR will prompt them to roll out products at a better pace. The original VQ hit the streets in '02, and it was '05 when the RevUps came out. Yet the response has been at a crawl. Kind of interesting when you consider that the RevUp market is just as old now as the '02/'03/'04...

I'd like to think that companies like GReddy/HKS/JWT/TN/Vortech/etc. will be in hot pursuit in putting R&D into this platform, but I'm not fully convinced given the cold reaction that the RevUps got.

Besides, aren't we STILL waiting on the elusive HKS kits to hit the market?

I'm really starting to think that with all of the tuning and fabrication companies that have popped up for the Z/G community, that it's going to be on them to develop custom setups for these motors if we want to see something of a quick response. Granted, larger companies like GReddy/HKS can afford to dump a lot on R&D, but the pace is just disappointing .

Oh well, back to the drawing boards. LOL.

The only reason turbo kits fit the revup motor is because the motor is basically the same as the non-revup and both sit in the engine bay exactly the same. Turbo companies didn't have to do any modifications to the kits. The HR motor on the other hand will require completely new fabrication. Hell, my APS TT kit still isn't officially listed to fit my 06 and APS still hasn't modified the kit to fix the steering knuckle clearance issue. A year later and I'm still waiting for their supposed fix.

I wonder if it's because they knew something like the HR was coming and decided to hold off on the REVUP?

I believe that JWT will probably offer the first twin turbo kit for this new motor, within a few months of it being released in the Z. Why else would they have one now to play with?
