I'm skipping the FI on my Z specifically to get a GTR. If the GTR does not live up to what I'm hoping for, then I'll get a Z06. If the GTR has a 3.5-3.8L engine and 450hp, then its only running about 8-9psi. With exhaust and boost controller, 15psi should get 500whp.

I don't see the comparison. My Z cost me $23K with 6K miles almost three years ago. A GT-R is going to be, what, $75K to 85K? An average price for a new Z is prob. about $30K. I just don't see these two cars targeting the same market. Tell me where I am wrong here.

As far as FIing the Z, again, no comparison. Prob. an average for TT is around $10K, a SC or Single Turbo correspondingly less. The price difference in the two cars is going to be $50K. So we are comparing a car at $40K to a car twice it's price. Again, where am I wrong here?

Insurance. I didn't see if anyone posted about this. My insurance jumped when I got the Z, and that was stock. Adding TT didn't add anything to insurance cost. Buying a car that costs >$80, is 450 to 500 hp from the factory, what the f%$k is that insurance rate going to be? Anyone even wonder about that?

I have been to four Nissan dealers since I purchased my Z. They suck. Worst dealerships I have ever been to. Warranty work is like pulling teeth. Personally, I wouldn't buy a >$80K car from NISSAN. Not until they do some drastic upgrade in their dealerships, which I don't see happening.

I TTed my Z because I felt it was a little underpowered stock, not because I was waiting for the GT-R to come out.

When we talk GT-R as it is being promoted and developed, it will be a rich man's toy. Like Harley Davidsons are now. Nothing but fat assed grandpa stockbrokers riding them. Am I wrong here? Sure the occasional twenty something crack dealer will have one, but don't most of them drive Escalades?

Tell me what I am wrong about.

+1. I am not flaming, but honestly I laugh everytime I read the GT-R threads and see so many people saying they're are going to buy one. Most people who buy $30K cars don't just all of sudden decide to get a $80K car. That's like people who buy homes in the $500,000 range all of sudden saying that they are going to upgrade to a $1,250,000 home. Not going to happen!

You cannot assume the engine will be able to take twice the factory boost level, especially if it's open deck design. We'll see.

Gringott said it best. It is like a Mercedes owner upgrading from a C240 to an SL500.

I dont' see what's so worth about driving a car where most your electrical stuff doesn't work. Just cause it fast? You can do that now with the VQ and it will probably be cheaper. A motor swap isn't cheap if you're not doing the work yourself.

Love my Z, but I'm looking into a zo6 as well if $75k is feasible.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep my Z N/A until I get out of grad school.

I need a reliable daily driver, and I can't afford a GT-R right now either.

In all honesty I think I'd rather own a GT-R than a F/I'd N/A car (as failsafe306 mentioned). When push comes to shove, selling a heavily modified car is never going to be easy (and is often depressing in terms of cash paid for mods versus cash you get for the car).

Props go out to all of you who put so much love, time, and $$$ into your F/I Z's, but at the end of the day I'm not sure it would be the right decision for me.

i'd say to resist the GTR hype, because you'll be sorry later on if you buy one of the first batches (most likely with some bugs) that you pay $10-15k over msrp for

if you wait 2-3 years you'll be able to buy a used one with 5000 miles for $5000-8000 below msrp

I mean, ask yourself how much money a year do you make. Now factor in saving $15-23k by getting the car 2-3 years later (used)

I was glad I waited and bought my Z when I did vs when it was brand new for that first year. I saved like $8k. I'm glad I didn't buy a lotus elise when it was brand new for at or over MSRP. I'll own one someday when they drop to around $30k used (currently $37-40k used)

I knew modding my Z was financially stupid and I refuse to sell it. It's my project car that I'll spend the next 10-20 years messing with until I wreck it or whatever. Someday I'll eventually start turning it into basically a race car that's barely street legal

It's a bit too early to speculate now. We still need firm specs on the GT-R and price too.

I'm waiting a year, then will have to think long and hard about the future car I want to own.

I still wonder about the insurance angle, I know we have insurance agents etc on here. Perhaps a good indicator would be a Z vs. a Viper? How much would it go up, all things being equal?

I guess for the most part what your saying is true. In my situation I have recently had a major pay upgrade and now I'm looking for a used Gallardo. But I love my Z and with all the money I have into it I will not get rid of it. I guess I will start collecting cars like Jay Leno.

Maybe some of these guys are comming out of school and getting better jobs, or just starting careers. Pleople who own Ferraris and Porsche's had to start somewhere. But I agree most are dreamers. But don't put us all into that category. Joey Kramer of Aerosmith has a TT Z.

I own my Z outright and have fronted the cash for all my mods.... approx $40,000 so far. I have about half the coin put away for a 2005 Gallardo. Captain pay is much better than co-pilot pay. It's nice not having kids.
