i agree, kids do throw a MAJOR dent in the funds category, ive got 2 of them.

i have a few months left and my G is paid off, and all my mods are paid for as well, but after its paid off, im driving it until it falls apart, or until the motor blows, then ill build it. i drove my previous car for a long time, even after it was paid off. i enjoyed not having a car payment. ive got the funds to buy it, i just cant force myself to when i have so many other obligations, kudos for those that can.

I'm still sticking w/ my plan of going TT (someday) and decide between the R-35 or, if Acura decides to make it, the new NSX. Of course, there's a good chance my wife will want to add the Kleemann supercharger in her car too, which will suck my R-35/NSX funds dry.

As far as FIing the Z, again, no comparison. Prob. an average for TT is around $10K, a SC or Single Turbo correspondingly less. The price difference in the two cars is going to be $50K. So we are comparing a car at $40K to a car twice it's price. Again, where am I wrong here?

Insurance. I didn't see if anyone posted about this. My insurance jumped when I got the Z, and that was stock. Adding TT didn't add anything to insurance cost. Buying a car that costs >$80, is 450 to 500 hp from the factory, what the f%$k is that insurance rate going to be? Anyone even wonder about that?

I have been to four Nissan dealers since I purchased my Z. They suck. Worst dealerships I have ever been to. Warranty work is like pulling teeth. Personally, I wouldn't buy a >$80K car from NISSAN. Not until they do some drastic upgrade in their dealerships, which I don't see happening.

I TTed my Z because I felt it was a little underpowered stock, not because I was waiting for the GT-R to come out.

When we talk GT-R as it is being promoted and developed, it will be a rich man's toy. Like Harley Davidsons are now. Nothing but fat assed grandpa stockbrokers riding them. Am I wrong here? Sure the occasional twenty something crack dealer will have one, but don't most of them drive Escalades?

Tell me what I am wrong about.
The point of the thread is not to compare the two cars. The point is most people that are on this forum own a 350Z and since most of those bought it with performance in mind, they would also be interested in the GT-R. Being that they will most likely own the 350Z and have no car payment when the GT-R is introduced, the choice for many of those owners is do I FI my Z and have something with higher (not the same) performance as Nissans new flag ship performance car (GT-R) or cough up 70K + for a GT-R.

As far as many other parts of your post, it is not right or wrong, just not the topic of the thread which is will you keep your 350Z and possibly FI it or buy a GT-R.

Really, it's just internet talk about people who cannot really afford it. There is a huge difference in buying a car for $28,000 and one for $80,000. Honestly, most people couldn't afford an $80K car when the bought the Z, and won't when the GTR comes out. Yes lots of people have dumped money into the Z which can creap up to $30K more, but that's usually in small amounts over time, and not a $1200/month payment on a car. There's a reason why people buy cheaper cars and make them faster.

If I could have afforded a more expensive car when I got the Z...I would have. Especially since the Z really isn't a supercar and fast.

Maybe some of these guys are comming out of school and getting better jobs, or just starting careers. Pleople who own Ferraris and Porsche's had to start somewhere. But I agree most are dreamers. But don't put us all into that category. Joey Kramer of Aerosmith has a TT Z.

yeah I am sure some of the people like you could actually get the GT-R. I was just referring to the hundreds of 350z/G35 owners that say they are getting one.

I am like you. I have too many responsiblities to pay my car off, but it's almost paid off and all my mods were paid for already.

My kids' day care payment and college fund is $1100 a month. My grocery bill for a family of four is over $1200 a month. I won't even go into the 3 car payments, two mortgage payments (primary and investment home) blah, blah, blah!

seriously, 65k for a GTR is too much. If you put let said, 30-40K on a Z...it could do what a GTR could do or even better. I love Nissan sport cars ( Silvia's, Z's) but NEVER like a skyline, don't even give a **** if it's a GTR. I think that car is way overrated...(actually i think it a POS). 65K 2 year from now get a C6, which will be cheaper and will kick a GTR in it's @$$. Or better yet, get a 02-04 911 Turbo.

Nice Thread...

Note:
Good-luck buying a GTR when they come out.

Hard to Find:
They are going to be scarce. Like twice as hard to find then a new Z06 or an M5. Not to mention the dealers are going to be charging a premium so not getting many out for at least 18 months even after they get released.

Speculation, yet we will see this hold true.

G35x:
Modding an AWD G35...We are currently doing a G35x. Building the motor and JWT TT. Will let you folks know when it is ready to launch.

As for the New GTR - I will buy one and Definitely MOD it...

80K will be out of reach for most people on here. Better off waiting a couple yrs and buying a used one after all the dust has settled.

I think that after the GTR is released the demand for the R34 will dissappear and the prices should plummit from importers... Maybe Ill pick one of these up too!

I'm just hoping the big dogs who have heavily modded Z's (now buying GTR's) will throw us a bone in the "classified" section.

The price people pay for the GT-R name is crazy. IMO the GT-R was great before because of the legendary same sporty coupe look that has now majorly changed in design and especially the RB26DETT.. That is now gone
Good Point.

I have spent 39k total on the Z and it will more then likely crush a GTR. Why buy a GTR?

Not likely. The price will only stabilize and remain a premium. Especially in the US. Especially the R34. Take for example the MKIV TT Supra. The price on a stock 97 with apprx 30k miles is still $40k. It will still be $40k when the new Supra is released. It has been $40k for the past 4 years. The R34 GTR is a legend as is the MKIV TT Supra. Legends are always legends.

The new GTR is different for bottom to top. We can only speculate on its impact at this time.

To get back to the original question: "FI'd Z or GTR. . .?" It's difficult to deliver an absolute opinion based on the comparison. Sure, one could most likely make the Z out perform a stock '09 GTR for the right amount of money. The biggest issue is initial cost. I'm sure an '09 GTR with $30k into it will crush that same modded Z. The GTR will have the obvious better retained investment where as the Z will only be worth much less (which is sad ).

We'll just have to wait and see.

+1......my guess is that they will be very hard to purchase and, if so, for a hefty premium.

I'd have to see some interior pics and see the car up close before ever saying I would purchase the GTR.

I may have to rethink things if they have a markup for a while. I have never, and will never pay any kak sucking dealer one penny of markup. The Z06 and Viper are my backups. The markup on the Z06 didn't last more than a couple months here in SoCal and you can now get them below sticker. Vipers are going for $10k below sticker.

I remember about a year ago going to a local Dodge dealership and they were asking about $10k above sticker for an '06 Viper.
