Default My EGT is ticking..

When I start the car my EGT needle cycles to the end and goes back to start but then the needle tickes between 525 and 550 well somewhere around there...

Anyone know what would cause this? its a DEFI EGT..

Sounds like you have an exhaust leak somewhere before the EGT. Has your car been louder lately?

Hmmm I just took my car apart and put a ATS carbon-carbon in so I guess a leak is possible although if I have a leak its a small one....The EGT will tick even if the car is not running just powered on..but since the EGT cycles on start-up I would think its not messed up wiring.

I've got a similar problem with my Autometer Nexus EGT gauge but without the clicking sound. When I start the car, the needle cycles from 392F to 1200F continually until the car warms up. The gauge worked perfectly for about a month and then the cycling problem started. I haven't figured out the problem yet.

Defi Gauges do that when they are not getting a signal from the sensor. it will just tick back and forth in the middle area.

Also, to confirm this, unplug your sensor all together, and notice how it does it exactly the same.

Similar problem with my Defi EGT gauge, it is not the probe, nor an exhaust leak...the gauge is acting up, have the wires ever been pulled out of the back?

A while back, the two wires in the back that attach into pins in the main clip pulled out, i tried every combination of putting the wires back in, to get the gauge functioning...a dew combinations made the gauge tick...and pretty much do exactly what you are describing..i figured out the correct wiring and it hasnt happened since

good luck

I checked the wiring and didn't see anything wrong. The only way I could get the gauge to stop cycling was to disconnect it from the sensor module. When I disconnected the EGT sensor from the module the gauge would still cycle. So the sensor wiring is ok. I think my sensor module is the problem.

Does your EGT still read correctly? Mine still works and stops cycling once EGT gets over 900F which is weird.
