Default Vortech belt slipping? *Possible* solution inside...

I stumbled upon this company, Riechard Racing, on the Mustang forums while searching the Internet. They make a product called the Ultra Grip Pulley which many seem to say has eliminated Vortech belt slippage. I called Jim at Riechard and he says that he has the pulley in stock that will replace the pulley on the jackshaft. Based on the information that I have been able to find, this seems to work as claimed. Jim says they are $150 each and come in the standard Vortech diameters. Their website is www.reichardracing.com. I am probebly going to order one and see how/if it works. If your interested, check out the site or give them a call (Number is on site). Maybe we can get a GB going if enough people are interested. Anywho, here are a few pics of the pulley design (Pulley is on left, Pics are not of the one specific to the jackshaft pulley)

nice find

my guess is it'll have more grip but also shred belts faster

I emailed them back to ask about belt wear as well as all of the pulley diameters they offer.

Do you notice that they arent anodized like our pulleys ? Ive been also thinking of sand blasting the anodize off the center of the pulley to get it to grip better . I was told this works from a guy with alot of SC history .

I think I will check that pulley out

How common is belt slippage on the vortech? I mean does it make you owners of the vortech systems regret going this route?

not common if your belt is properly tightened, but on higher boost like around 13-14psi it seems to happen

I say booger should try it out. If it works for him it will work for everyone, lol.

Wouldn't belt slip not only be limited to the jackshaft pulley? I would think it would slip more at one of the engine idler pulleys.

Interesting. I'd like to hear what you find after the install.

I'll give one a try! 2.87"
I don't think the mustang pulley needs to be machined down.
Nice find bro!

I called these guys today, I talked to Josh, he told me they get the 6 ribs made in .10" increments from 2.50" to over 3.00"!. They are waiting on the batch to come back from machining, mid. of next week.
I told I would order a 2.80" as soon as he gets them in, this is the next smallest size from the Vortech 2.87". Josh also said they get 20 or so at a time made at a time. He didn't indicate that there was any added belt wear with this pulley.
I'll keep posted.

Looks promising. especially if there is minimal belt wear compared to the standard pulley.

Superchargers of any type consume lots of parasitic HP [increases with rpm].
An Alternator only consumes <4 HP at max rpm/max load.

Has anyone measured the exact HP drain from the supercharger at varoius [psi vs flow]? To calculate the needed belt width and friction coefficient vs tension?

i thought it was the other way around with centrifugals superchargers

that because it takes a certain amount of power to turn the SC, lower rpms has more loss than at high rpms. The vortech blower itself has about the same adiabatic efficiency (75%) as a lot of turbos - because it IS a turbo unit with a belt turning it

From my readings with centrifugal SC's, I was under the impression that they has less parasitic loss in the upper rpms than at low rpms.

From what I understand, roots blowers have parasitic losses big time with adiabatic efficiency ratings around 30-35% and the that the parasitic losses increase as rpms increase. This is mainly why the stillen blower seems to cap off at around 350whp or so because the intake temp starts getting way too hot to where adding more boost just isn't worth it really and will probably just hurt the engine shoving hotter and larger quantities of air into the engine.

Good deal man!, I called today, the 2.80" are not out of mill yet.
Do you have any belt slip now?
