Default Turbonetics and boost spikes

I've been researching this kit inside and out. Due to I'll be buying at the year to come. It seems like some people have the wastegate relocation pipe and/ or overboost pipe. But in some cases you still hear about boost spikes. Isn't this post to help due away with these problems and why does this occur in the first place? And in other cases some have none of these accessories and no over boost problems.

This is just one of the small things I don't know. Just want to build a reliable kit the first time. In which there is no guarantee for everthing but every little thing helps.

I've personally never had a boost spike with the Apexi WS2 exhaust, Motordyne 5/16" spacer, and my other mods.

I blew my motor wit the boost spike, but I mean the newer kits have the overboost. Unless like now wit the weather being so cold, boost spikes wont happen. I just think lately people are more prone to it b/c of the cold weather. But oh man are our cars faster haha

With a boost controller installed, you shouldn't have any boost creep (not the same as a spike) caused by changes in ambient temperature.

Furthermore, the OP is misinformed in the fact that these kits have had any issues with boost spiking. A spike is a surge in boost caused by dialing in too much gain on a boost controller. Creep would be a case in which boost is building normally, but builds to levels higher than intended. It doesn't actually "spike" in this case.

There was an issue people were experiencing with boost CREEP on the older kits without the relocated wastegate, but it should have been fixed with the newer kits.

I don't have the wastegate relocation kit and have never had a boost spike. I still have the stock exhaust with the MD plenum spacer.

The whole issue behind the boost creep was the addition of a free flowing exhaust. The wastegate was mounted in a poor location. The new kits relocate the wg to a new location. From the information that I have gatherted here on the message boards the new wg location works for some and not for others. I built a new wg mounting pipe and put in a 48mm wastegate. Problem solved.

I too never had any boost issues, until I installed a cheap manual boost controller... Now boost is not consistant, so before with just the standered wastegate controlling boost it was solid as well.

I have no problems with boost creep either. Knock on wood with my luck.

We havent seen boost spike or creep on the dozen or so TN car's we've had on the dyno. I know that TN redesigned their wastegate piping location to help. I believe, some of the earlier version kits were more suseptible to this issue, such as with Kelly's and Jet's car...but I havent seen any issues over the past several months.

Hmmm..... TopSpeed exhaust ON and we have overboost. TopSpeed exhaust OFF no overboost.

Draw your own conclusions!

No I understand what you were saying. I guess the didn't take. BTW the overboost pipes were created using a Topspeed Pro-1 as the test exhaust.

Out of all the TN cars that you had come across, any idea on a ratio of who over-boosted to those who didn't?

Thanks for the info. Seems like not to much to worry about now.

Right, it was my old exhaust they used. Definitely a fart cannon if I've ever heard one.
