Default Possible spark blowout???

Evr since the weather turned cold, I have been having issues. first off, my A:F was WAY off. for the most part, I have corrected that.

I am getting alot of knock reading on the UTEC and I can hear it. I haven't messed with my timing at all. In theory, you can usually run more timing in the cold. So, I am thinking that I am blowing the spark out. I have my iridiums gapped to .039". Should I gap them down some more? or,....even though it sounds wierd, should I open the gap back up?

In the cold I typically add more fuel not timing. The colder denser air can lean the car out under cold weather conditions. Have you tried adding more fuel in? I have my NGK Iridium one step colder plugs gapped at .039 and haven't had any knock even in 30degree weather.

I had my plugs gapped at .035, I think .039" is too open.

as for knock, have you put in temp correction into the UTEC? That can correct for the lower temps and add more fuel

it would be VERY tough to douce the spark with our style ignitions and i am guessing you are running only one step colder. i run 2 steps colder, and it sputters for the first 5-10 seconds on a cold start (sounds sick! like top fuel or something) but catches right on and have no probs at high boost with them. believe my gap is 0.35

Are you running the Denso plugs? I tried them for a short time and had similar issues. Went back to NGK's and no issues.

Quad, remember the fuel pressure phenomenon we observed on the dyno. Do you think this might be contributing to the change in AF ratio? We havent seen any spark blow out even at pretty high boost, with .040-.044 Maybe try pulling a degree of timing out near the trq peak...all the way to redline?

We run the DLI II's on the higher boost cars, usually, but I can mine without one for a year.

So when you say you add more fuel you mean you flash the ECU again? What plugs are you using now?

Spent a week in San Diego, a week in LA and a week in SF, all in summer, that's the extent of my Cali experience.
It gets pretty cold in NYC though.

That explains it. Its 43 right now in San Diego. It can get into the 30s in December and January at night and in the morning. Never snows down here though. Too dry. Hell it hardly ever rains either. It got to 29 last year in Glamis at night when we went out there (desert off roading spot). I'm not saying we have anything like your winters. I went to Manhatten in March a couple years ago and it was in the 20s the whole week but doesn't mean it doesn't cold in other places.

I stand corrected.
