Default a little FYI on BOVs......

for anyone interested, I just messed around with a Greddy RS BOV and realized that it is a direct swap to a Turbonetics raptor. They use the exact same flange with mounted holes in the same loacation!

and by the way, they sound almost the same too. Greddy is overall a more compact design, though.

Um I could have told you that. Intense replaced their Raptor with a Type RS well over a year ago. In fact the Type S BOV will bolt up too.

i tried that, and the greddy even on the softest setting would flutter at WOT... could never figure out why... sounded awesome though. had it checked out by a couple people and said it wasnt compressor surge. "thats just how the bov is"

I have an answer for you on that!!!

I noticed that it was fluttering at boost levels up to 3psi. The raptor would usually only flutter up to 1 psi. Also, my raptor valve would pull open at idle. you could see that the vacuum was pulling the valve open. On the stock RS, the valve stayed shut at idle....there is obviously much more spring pressure in the GReddy valve. BTW, I was not adding any spring preload on either valve.

SO,..................I took apart the Type-RS valve.

vey simple....it is only 5 allen head bolts. be careful when take out the last bolt as the spring will push the cap right off. Just hold pressure on the top of the BOV while you take out the last bolt.

lift the top of the BOV off. There is a stainless spring cup that sits at the top of the springs (yes, springs!!!). the cup comes right off. then, take the 2 springs out. Seaprate them, and remove the inner spring from the outer spring. then, replace the larger (outer spring back in to the BOV. Place the stainless spring cup back on. then place the top of the BOV back onto the rest of the housing. Finally, replace the 5 allen bolts.

I am still playing with preload setting. at no preload(adjustment screw screwed in finger tight), there is no flutter. I did notice that the Typer-RS now sounds AWESOME!!!!! I think it needs some more preload though, as even moderate acceleration prodices a noticable "blow off." Currently, I have added 1 full turn of preload to the spring. It still sounds awesome and no flutter.

I am only running 8-9 psi. i don't know how many psi the type-rs can handle, but the dual spring setup must be capable of keeping the valve closed at much higher pressures than I am using. Running just the single large spring seesm to be a fantastic free mod to this valve!!! give it a try and report back.

the Greddy is similar to the raptor.

the DIY is up now.

Are you sure the flutter is coming from the BOV?...usually a flutter sound is compressor surge. I've noticed that a lot of these atmospheric designed BOVs (Hks, Greddy, etc) flutter because they are not releasing compressed air at low or no boost to prevent stalling of MAF cars allowing air to jump back to the turbo causing compressor surge. Just a thought.

Recirculation FTW!

exactly, that is probaly what is from.....this mod allows the BOV to open up at lower pressures. The stock spring pressure seems like way too much seat pressure.

and for a little extra you can also mount a Turbo XS RFL with the Greddy Flange for them . . .

Just thought I would add another option

Can you post the size of the Greddy Flange we need? If this is true.. then we might be able to switch to other bov's that match with the greddy flange..

The Raptor BOV shares the same exact flange as the Greddy Type RS. Any adaptor for a Greddy Type RS or Type S BOV should fit on the Turbonetics flange...

How loud is the RFL BOV and how do you like it?
I never heard one before.. so it'd be good if you can describe the noise level and the tone compare to the raptor.
