Default FI TT A/T shift problem

05, cpe, a/t

Normal mods--int. exhu.....all happy.

At 6500 miles added JWT kit~330 WHP. A/T not happy. During acceleration lip mode activated twice. The A/T boggs down, lags, hesitates. The problem occurs under acceration in every gear at many rpm's including redline.

Do you have a valve body or torque converter. The only thing that I can think of is that your trans doesn't like the additional torque from the turbos and is trying to shut down to prevent damage. Hopefully somebody else can chime in with a more definitive answer.

Unhappy 05/G/A/T Prob.

The Valve Body was "upgraded" and has already been returned once for "further" checking.

VB mods are more of a bandaid IMO. A good torque converter will help you the most.

I agree with TECH. I think a good VB with an upgraded torque converter is the only way to go when boosting an AT. I doubt the stock converter will take repeated abuse anyway. You could always just go with SFR's 1000whp tranny if you want a bullet proof set-up.

Either way, 330whp is a bit too low for the 5AT to fail, ther've been coping with upto 400whp w just a VB upgrade...

you won't have prolems on manual mode.. get use to the manual mode for hard driving.. then you wouldn't have to waste money on TC and VB upgrade, for that little of power... these 2 things should be upgraded around 400whp+

The torque converter is only functional (slipping) during launching (1st 60 feet or so?) and then it locks. Not sure what there is to fail by increasing the power (other than standard wear and tear) - a fin breaking? Never heard of a TC failure...

The VB definitely needs upgrading to allow faster shifts and hopefully to prevent clutch pack wear.

A "nonretail" shop in CA called Transgo. Recently swapped out VB solinoids and throttle would not respond.

What exactly does a " good torque converter" mean...what is it? who does it?, cost...again I am only at ~ 330 whp and this thing slips, hestates, hunts, stalls badly.

My belief exactly... I'm not asking that much.

www.speedforceracing.com Its not listed on their website but, if you email them they will fill you in. They basically upgrade all the major wear items in the trans such as the clutch packs to handle a claimed 1000whp. I believe that the 3rd and 4th gear clutchs are a weakness on these transmissions. It's not cheap so, if you plan on staying at your current power level, it's likely not worth the cost. I'm having one installed in my G as we speak so, i'll make sure to let you know how it works.

No, but this only happened twice and has not happened again. Occurs at 4000 rpm...redline...etc. Car currently in shop w/ "new" normal vb but has no throtle response at all...prob will take to dealer....

Actually, the A/T stalled/hesitated in manual shift ~ 75 mph, hard accereration, it hunted for the right gear for maybe a second or a second and a half. I think the shift was 3rd to 4th but it might have been 4th to 5th.
