Default Turbonetics Problem

First off, I want to say thanks to Function Tuned for a great install and tune for my 5at Z. I plan to make a more discriptive thread about my good experience with them.

I was on my way home last night (after winning a cash prise bracket race!!!) and lost power on the interstate right next to the exit ramp I was getting off of (thank god). I sat there brainstorming what the problem could have been for a second, then my girlfriend looks at me and says "it felt like you just ran out of gas." I was thinking "wow, that would be a problem too easy to fix." Sure enough, after getting back to the car and getting gas in it, it started right up. The check engine light was on, so I took it to Advanced to check it's codes. It threw the gas gauge sensor code! It seems that this might be a sort of common problem with turbonetics kits for some reason. Even after I filled the car up shortly thereafter, the gauge didn't show a full tank. Does anyone know why? Anyone else had this problem? Any fixes?

Any help would be appreciated!

Um no. This has zero to do with the Turbonetics or any turbo kit for that matter. It sounds to me like your fuel level sensor has either gone bad or its connection has come off. It might have been a faulty connection during install but its not caused by this or any other turbo kit. The only issue I have heard of is that when below 1/5 of a tank of gas when boosting and taking corners quickly the car may go slighlty lean due to fuel starvation but has nothing to do again with the fuel level sensor not reporting the correct amount of fuel in the tank.

I've always wondered after fooling with the fuel pump during upgrades and putting it back, does it throw off the float a little? I notice on my car that when I'm at about 1/4 of a tank it shows on the display gauge that it can still get near 200 more miles on what's left in the tank. I just keep it above 1/4 of a tank full anyways.

Cause my daily driver Camaro been doing this for years so it's normal to me.

If you are talking about the DTE gauge it is going to read higher with bigger injectors since you have them on shorter pulse widths than the stock injectors...it still thinks the stockers are in there just spitting out less gas

you may need to check your installation of the walbro Fp...bad gauges could also be a problem... does it overflow when you put gas?

Argggghhhh.....looks like the dreaded stock siphon line has struck again! Sorry about this man. I take extra caution when installing the fuel pump becasue the stock siphon line is notorious for trapping the fuel level sensor and causing bad readings. This is what happened. Its a pretty simple fix so I can walk you through it over the phone. Just give me a shout.

Otherwise glad to hear you're happy with the install!

Yes... the turbo worked its way into your fuel tank and broke it.

I think he was refering to the fuel slosh at 1/4 tank low level issue. Fortunetly we did not modify his fuel pump assembly other then for the pump so he still maintains full factory siphon fill capability.
