CIN Motorsports in Charlotte, NC is looking for someone who is open minded to trying the new STS Rear Mount turbo kit. This kit has not been released yet and only a handful of shops in the nation have this kit available.

For clarification... this is a single turbo in place of the single-in dual-out stock muffler? Or is this a true dual exhaust system going into twins at the back in place of dual mufflers?

Well if its anything like the rear mount BMW kit, Ive got to ask what you guys are going to do to protect it from road wear and tear being that low on the car and being that close to the exhaust what about heat management?

 

I'm confused... what being that close to the exhaust? All turbos are close to exhaust

And as for wear and tear, you could make it a personal lil skidplate, and from the pictures, that's exactly what they made for the underside of the filter. A heat-shield/weather-shield. The exhaust temps back there are ~500 degrees colder than up by the headers (don't quote me on that, I'm just remembering from what I read) so the real heat management is ensuring the turbo has hot enough oil to properly lubricate.

We've already gone over the fact that there's been Vette's that sit much lower than a stock Z not having a problem with road debris knocking a turbo off or an oil line... your question(s) have been addressed plenty of times over already in the enormous STS thread.

 

I never knocked my fuel lines off that run under the car. In my custom exhaust i used some resonaters that sit pretty low and have only scraped them once. They sit under the frame rails on the car.

 

Doesn't look like they'd scrape or hit anything... it's all tucked up higher than most mufflers.

Forgive me if im wrong, but for every estimated distance in piping, isen't there a loss in horse power?

I mean thats a long *** up pipe to the intercooler. I would think that you would practically have to be on boost from freakin 2000rpm to keep the pressure constant for a good response.

Well for starters the 335i have both turbos JAMMED on the exhaust something serious. Literally 3-4 inches at the most away. They have a rear mount kit for the m3/m5 and the turbos are once again jammed up against the midpipe and people have complained of over heating issues.
