Default APS TT Smoking, Oil Restrictors?

Well guys, this is the only bug i need to work out on my APS TT setup. It smokes like crazy. I read a thread about people replacing the stock oil restrictors with smaller ones. Is this the fix? Boulder Nissan has checked the oil return lines for kinks and have trimmed them to size. What else can we do? Is the oil restrictors the only fix for my smoking problem?

It smokes heavy on decel. Light smoke all the time tho...

Also, i had boulder put in exactly 5.5 quarts, is that still to much oil?

I had the same problem. I had my lines trimmed and even placed just 5 quarts of oil and it still smoked. I later discovered it was a bad passenger side turbo. I dont know if you have true dual exhaust or not but in my case 1 side of the exhaust was the smoker. good luck.

It is not a new motor, it has 14,500 miles on it. I can tell its obviously the turbos making the smoke.

I had the smoking problem since day one, and GRD ended up sending both turbos back to APS for rebuilding.

the oil restrictors is not what you want to do.

smoking under acceleration?
under decel?
white smoke?
Blue/black smoke?

As SBC stated, run it where you can distinguish between each side.

Most likely it is a turbo and it will have to be pulled and be replaced/rebuilt

Its white smoke. At start up it doesn't smoke. But at decel it really smokes. Im going to try to put 5 quarts in and see if it stops smoking. I think at 5.5 i still have too much oil...

Yup, L mark is your new full line.

Mine would only smoke if I ever overfilled it with lets say 6qts. 5.5qts and it never smoked again.

After 3k miles after the install it pretty much stopped for me. I doubt it was cause of my my catch can install, but who knows. Make sure your oil return lines are ok, and that angle is appropriate for gravity to do its work.

I hope its not your turbo because its a pain in the **** to send it to aps. Not only did i have a about a month of down time, I also had to pay to uninstall and reinstall the turbo.

Ok guys. i put in exactly 5 quarts. Still smoking under decel. It wont smoke under acceleration. It will smoke for awhile at idle then go away as it sits and idles. I have really no idea what is going on. How do you know if you have a bad turbo(s)?????? Please Help Me!!!! Smoke is mostly white with a hint of blue.....

Also, around how much is a turbo rebuild under APS Warranty really going to cost me??

Wouldn't smoking under acceleration signify a bad turbo?

Sounds more like a return line issue

Did your motor consume oil before the TT install?

What are your other supporting mods?
