Is it possible to replace the 3rd gear only? Does Nissan even sell this as an individual part?

yes, u can buy any part of the tranny individually, this copper braised gear will only be the weak link again, that's why a beam weld, or maybe even tig weld (I will be testing this soon) may be a viable solution

Cool

I just got pointed here myself after my 3rd gear "quit" on me last night.

Last night, I wasn't doing a damn thing so I don't know why it decided it wanted to "pop" then...

Now some of you know me and know what my car has been through over the years, so as usual I can't complain about anything that has or is going to happen to my car/drivetrain...

Road Course, 1/8,1/4 Drag, Street Play since Jan '03 and TT'd Since Oct 04.

Is this going anywhere?

Is someone actually going to come up with a better 3rd Gear (counter gear/whatever) or are we still "just wait'n for the next one to pop" ?

Thanks for this thread, info, and effort... Looking forward to more...

Joe

We are rtebuildign a tranny now (slowly) with a third counter gear that we have welded and beefed up a bit... sorry I don;t have any more info yet, but this may be a simple fic to this common problem.

in the meanwhile, you can usually get a used tranny for under $1000.

Good luck
