Damn.. nice... So here's the question I have now: Will this shroud allow you to run the thicker core Koyo setup and clear the turbonetics intake pipe??

That would be awesome if so.

See the power of the aftermarket fans! We run those Spals and Permacool fans on alot of cars.Typically with shrouds when there is enough space. We put the same size fans on a G we did about a year ago.We noticed the temp will never climb over 195f.We didnt build a shroud for it though because it had a custom intake and there was no room for the piping so we just bolted the fans to the radaitor.Coolant temps were still very good.Thereis probabl another 10F cooler with the shroud according your results with shroud vs. our results with no shroud.Which radiator were you running there. We had the 54mm Koyo in the G.

We also tried to get the factory fan circuit to control the aftermarket fans and didnt have too good of luck.I figured if I could wired up some factory HIDs to a halogen equipped Z,then it should be not problem.Boy was I wrong.

I can anwser this, no. You can run two of these fans on the 54mm Koyo with no shroud but you will have to do some grinding on the fansYou know I was thinking about this so more and we did this on a rev-up which has large covers for the cam sprockets so it might work with a shroud but the shroud would have to very shallow.

True but couldn't you run a thinner core radiator and use the Spearco IFC like I referenced earlier with this so you could have a shroud still. If the fans run all the time at 6 volts and 12 volts under boost it should keep the motor cool enough. At any rate it would be better then the on again off again setup the stock fans use.

How loud are they in this setup?
They loud when the engine is not running, with the engine running, you can just barely here it.

We are running the large koyo core in the pictures, but the shroud will work on both thin and thick core rads. The thin, will obviously give you more clearance. It really cleans up the engine bay nicely too. I forgot to snap pics of Brent's installed, but I will take pics of mine in two days.

If you have the fans always on at say 6 volts at idle you won't hear them and under load the exhaust will be louder then the fans. Its exactly the way Turbonetics set up the Spal fans on the G35 intercooler. In fact you could probably get just that controler box (IFC) from someone or from a dealer. It already has the Spal Connectors attached so all you need to do is wire it in. It should work just the same and as well for those that don't want to hear the Spals at idle. If the fan is constantly running at idle at 6 volts as opposed to switching on and off based on temp your coolant temps should always be low.
awesome - thanks

It's not really a DIY project, since you need a tig welder, and a brake, which most home shops will not have.

But physically, its not hard at all. It's basically a aluminum metal box, formed from aluminum sheets, with holes cut out for the fans, and brackets welded to it. It's a lot easy said than done.

running a set of 12" fans on a custom 3" rad here. still was not keeping the temp where i wanted it with them bolts to the rad. left to much open space. will be making a shroud and possibly adding 2 10" pushers too.
the shrouds help tremendously in pulling air through the entire rad!!

that is a nice looking piece sharif. It is funny, how some of the tips and tricks from long ago... other cars I have owned come back and do similar things on these cars.

my mr2 had a custom shroud and spal fan on a stock IC and performed as well as the greddy unit w/o a fan.

+1 keep up the great work.

Very nice, Sharif...

Perfect time for that mod down here in Florida... High nineties every day... except when raining of course.

Very nice craftsmanship on the welds, too!
