Default APS intercooler, or like?

APS vendors, is it possible to order just the intercooler and upper charge pipe seperately from the kit? Or just the intercooler itself...

Or does anyone know of a vertical intercooler with the same in and out tanks with similar dimensions of the APS one? Closest I've found without breaking the bank is from some company called Treadstone.

Thanks andrew, I'll look into the sfr...

For the Treadstone... Not sure if angle of the top end tank will work... but that can be fixed for cheap...

I'm sure SFR or GTM could get a core and fab something up.

Isn't the intercooler for the Extreme kit about 5"? Maybe that would swap right in.

Not to start a debate and speaking from our own experience...........very thick (5" and 6" cores) intercoolers are not as effective at speeds below 140-150mph. It takes alot of air velocity to push the ambient air all the way through the core. Above these speeds, the thicker cores work extremely well.

Ducting to 5" and 6" intercoolers is critical to allow them to be the most effective.Ideally the inlet duct of the intercooler will be about 1/3 the size of the actual core! Alot of people dont realize this. What happens if you have too big of an opening and a massive core, is the air will literally bounce off the face and go around the intercooler instead of passing through it.Air will always take the path of least resistance.A bumpers shape and design will have a big effect on getting air through the intercooler too. Here is an example of proper ducting for an intercooler. This is on a sandrail.

This is why we chose to use 3.5" Spearco WAVE cores. They are very effective at low and high speed driving. We can build any configuration of intercooler possible if anyone needs something custom. The intercooler we build for the Z is capable of handling about 1300 horsepower.Good luck.

In response to the OP's question, you can purchase the intercooler and related parts from an APS dealer. The last replacement intercooler I purcahsed was about $680 + shipping from Oz (part #435-041-800); upper charge pipe was about $250 (silicon boot [435-243-000] and stainless piping [435-143-100]).
