Default How often do Walbro pumps go bad?

Just installed mine last night and everything works fine. Just wanted a heads up on failure rate of them. Might pick up a spare if I need to.

Read the current [amperes] and the revolution [rpm with your dc amplified amprobe and digital scope] of the pump brand new as they age the speed [rpm] drops and the amperes increase.

Existing wire sizes and lengths may create excessive voltage drop to pump terminals thus rpm and pressure change with at pump voltage.

Always good to make suck brand new measurements [idle cruise and high rpm load] for future diagnosis.

I had 50 miles on mine and I blew the springs out of the top in rush hour traffic. The shop put it back togather and melted plastic on top of the pump where the springs are located and havent had any problems since. 6k miles later

there is no rule for failure, but one grain of sand can seize a close tolerance pump.

We've seen about 2-3 bad ones, out of a couple hundred...its pretty rare, IMHO.

How can such simple engineering of how an electric fuel pump works be over anyone's head? An electric pump has been standard for 20+ years not like it's new technology.

Since low fuel pressure is a significant cause of lean operation and engine stress and failure, might be wise to study up on common failures and test proceedures.

On Q45 since 1989 fuel pump failure has been the NUMBER 1 cause of a Q/J/M get flat bedding back to shop. I suspect G/Z will carry on that tradition in the future. All of this preventable if owners had bothered to do periodic testing and replacement.

Biggest cause of failure is running the pumps dry. That will burn the plastic housing inside the pump pretty quickly.
