Default Built Motors that have been blown up

just as the titles states, i'm looking for ppl who have had their motors built and something go wrong, weather its a bearing or rod or headlift, whatever it is i would like to know.

i'm going to have my motor built and i'm deciding between a short or long block and trying to decide which shop to use. i've talked with a few shops and everyone has different answers to the same questions and different opinions about a lot of things concerning the build and it's driving me crazy right now. so a little help would be nice before i go spending all this money and may wind up with problems.

my car now has greddy twins and absolutely no problems at all. runs perfectly but 1. i want more power 2. i want the power reliably so just some insight on what parts were used that failed woudl be nice, thanks

GTM was too expensive for me, couldnt affor their labor with the price they charge for a motor. i did talk to them and and thats why i have this problem. i compared what they said to about 3-4 other shops and everything is different.

www.builtzmotors.com

I would also call Sam and see if he can work something out for you. You could also talk to other motor builders that are willing to accept shipment of your car (I know both GTM and ForgedPerformance do this, and maybe MRC also).

honestly no matter where you go its gonna be expensive thats why havent a built motor isnt common. Just remember you always get what you pay for. So make sure you do your research and not really base your motor on your income but what you want it to do and then save towards that goal. It is the best advice i can give you

You get what you pay for.if your getting a low ball to good to be true quote, there is a reason. Turboing and building a motor are a HUGE financial step and must be taken on by a reputable shop with knowledge and experience and a long resume'. Going to any joe blow off the wall shop may cost you more $$$$ initially but more money in the long run. you want to ensure you actually getting what you pay for and parts that will perform as stated.

oh, i understand that so i am calling shops that are here on the forum, but i was quoted 300 less for a longblock with JWT cams and headwork installed and tuned than i was for a shortblock by GTM. Dont get me wrong, i'm not talking bad about any one here i never really would and i'm sure GTM is worth every penny, i've been to their shop, so i have seen their work but i'm not going for big power so it might be overkill for me. the labor difference was about 1000 less for the longblock also than GTM's shortblock.

Red face

^Its just a matter of knowing what goes into a longblock and shortblock and then you'll see why the labor charges are what they are. I think if you research a bit more here it will all make sense to you....GL

There is a lot of tedious work involved in a built motor...so don't be afraid to pay a bit more for a shop that has a great reputation. It will more than likely save you a lot of headaches in the end.

If this were me I would tell you if you lived in the:

SE - Forged Performance
NE - MRC
West Coast - GTM

If you have to make a trip than so be it.....

Having a physical shop and standing behind your work takes some overhead. That's the extra you'd be paying for. If you don't want anything to go wrong, pick a shop that can do the build AND install AND tune for you so there is no one to point a finger at if something goes wrong. That is priceless.

yeah, thats true but it's hard to spend 500 more for a shortblock than for a built longblock with head and cam work

i've been searching around for awhile and there is always something bad about someone.

You know what the biggest headache is? It's trying to trust someone to do the work. everyone has a shop and is trying to sell you something so everyone kinda seems a little shady, from oh dont use those parts that the other shop said, use ours they are better or I wouldnt trust them to do your build but if thats what you want to do. I just dont get why shops bash eachother. usually if shop kinda slanders another i dont really feel like having them do my work either, just because i mention another shop doesnt mean i want you to start bad mouthing them, you know. i was just simply quoting a difference in what was said between the 2 places, that doesnt mean the shop i'm talking to needs to start saying bad things about the other shop.
