Default Basic Built Shorblock: Component List

Hey everyone, I have done a brief search and know there are threads that exist. However I feel like it's probably better to start a new one and make sure that I have everything together.

I plan on doing a build in a year most likely, I want to learn how to drive the car better first at my current power levels.

From what I've researched it seems like I'll just do a built shortblock. I came up with the following list. Please add more as necessary, and feel free to add more.

Built Shortblock, hoping for 500whp. Also hoping to be able to rev to 7,000RPMs, hopefully it will make power past 6600RPMs. Before anyone asks I already have HKS F-Con VPro, so EMS is taken care of.

-Arias Extreme Duty or CP 9:1 Pistons.
-Pauter or Eagle Rods
-HKS Headgaskets
-ARP 2000 12mm Head Studs
-HKS Twin Power DLI II
-CJM Stage 2 Fuel System
-HKS 740cc Injectors (will it help to go bigger?)
-Cosworth Plenum (most likely)

Also I don't really feel like changing test pipes. I'm pretty sure my 2.5" test pipes and exhaust is enough for 500whp.

Thanks

ARP bolts?

JWT Valve Springs and/or some titanium valves (headwork required for upping the rev limit, but you can always try your luck @ 7k rpm w/out it, you're non-rev-up so it'd be worthwhile to do some minimal head work)

Forget the HKS injectors and go with Deatschwerks. They are much cheaper. Go with 550 injectors.

ARP L19 head studs
JWT valve springs and retainers
GTM turbo cams
Rev up oil pump
Nissan gasket engine rebuild kit

For injectors I was gonna go bigger because I plan on shooting for 600whp in the future.

So injectors bigger than 700cc is what I am looking at.

Also replaced L19's with oversized 12mm head studs. I plan on tracking my car; I've heard these withstand abuse much better than L19's.

You can read all about the different alloys that ARP offers on their website. I believe Injected is making over 1000HP using the L19 studs in diameter!

I vote for the CP pistons and Eagle rods.

The eagles are very strong and much lighter than the pauter rods. You won't break an Eagle H beam with 500whp!

you are willing to spend a grand on a cosworth plenum, but won't put the money down for cams?

To add to the list:
JWT or GTM cams
JWT or similiar valve springs
new timing and cam chains... possibly guides as well
new main, thrust, and rod bearings
Rev-up oil pump
new water pump
nissan rebuild gasket kit
ARP main studs
have the rotating assembly balanced and blueprinted for your records (blueprinting merely means documenting the specs of the build)

my vote goes to the arias ED pistons and eagle rods. make sure your crank is good. have it mag'd and mic'd by a reputable shop. If the specs are not consistant, dont' hesitate to get a new crank. It is more difficult to properly fit bearings if the crank is not consistant between cylinders... which I fear will lead to spun bearings.

You say that your planning for more power(600whp) down the road. I would suggest going with the bigger test pipes and exhaust now instead of the Cosworth plenum. There are plenty of guys using the stock plenums and putting down the numbers your trying to achieve..

cosworth race bearings would be a worthwile investment considering you plan to track the car here and there.

for 600whp, you are gonna need APS 3.5" test pipes and Greddy evo TT exhaust. L19 should be good enough... otherwise other guys pretty much mentioned everything.

also the L19's have less room for error. when drilling into the block to fit the 12mm studs your going to have more room for error due to the bigger size. the L19's will do just fine...trust the forum on this one!!

I agree...

I wanted FP to hollow out my high flow cats which were 2.5 ( was not trying to be cheap..just in case I got checked by cops) and Sharif said it would not get me the high whp's.....So I went with the 3.5 APS.

Sweet, this is my exact build minus cams

Who do you plan on going to for the build?

Thanks for everyone's help.

I might end up using GTM spec. Arias Pistons and Rods. I'll see how light the GTM rods are compared to Eagle ones.

May or may not have them do the work. Would like to. But very far away.

How light are the GTM rods compared to the Eagle? I was thinking GTM had two specs - one for their high revving NA application vs the FI version.

Where can you get the rev-up oil pump? Price? Is it much better than the non-revup?

Nissan dealer, worth while especially if you plan on revving it over stock like you said.

Looks like you have a good list and everyone has covered the other things... L19 headstuds, cams, etc.
