Default Terrible belt squeal with the vortech?

I have terrible belt squeal with the vortech on startup for a good 10 min on the Z and then goes away after it is warmed up. Is it possible it is because I just put on a brand new belt? It sounds like its coming from the pulleys on the bracket. Should I use belt dressing or grease on the pulleys. Is it possible my pulley bearings are going bad?

Any input is appreciated.

You put a brand new belt on and didnt tighten it up enough . Guys just dont know how tight it needs to be . Get it tight !!!!

When it doesn't squeal at all or on colder days just squeals .5-1 seconds. Can't be lazy about it, trial and error is your friend even though it is a pain to keep tightening it.

Can it be overtightened? Lead to premature bearing(s) failure?

Sounds like we have no good way of determining when a belt is properly tightened other than squeal and in the absent of squeal we could be damaging bearings..

That is why you tighten it in stages and you take it to the point of no squeal or little squeal as I discribed in smal increments.

the belt will always start squealing some in the winter when the belt gets colder than normal

problem is if you tighten it now to get rid of the squeal, when the belt warms up, it might be too tight

also when winter is over, the belt might be too tight and you wouldn't really be aware of it

IMO, maybe you might tighten it a little, but if the squeal just happens when you first start up the car, I've chosen to just let it happen, but I haven't noticed any belt slip or anything at high revs with the TIMROD belt mod and extra pulley under the jackshaft on my setup

Yeah, the cold weather does bring an occasional squeal at times. I will get a very short 1 second squeal on really cold days (for Cali which isn't all that cold ) but then it immediately goes away. If it is squealing for like 10 seconds, the belt might need to be tightened just a little bit.

I personally don't tighten my belt unless it squeals at every startup in order to reduce the possibility of having it too tight.

Same here. I get a minor squeal every once in a while. Not even at every start up. But if it lasts for over a minute, it's too loose.

I believe any time the belt squeels at start up , its going to slip in the upper PSI range . You need to tighten it till you have NO squeels at all .
