I've driven a couple fcon cars, I couldn't honestly tell any major differences between the utec (Again, I attribute this to the skills of my tuner). He (Tuan @ GRD) did a fantastic job and I was this close to jumping ship to fcon before I actually got the car back and actually drove it. Anyways, my point is that sometimes a stand alone isn't the only answer out there. I do know that many tuners prefer tuning with fcon (not becuase of profit margins), but because it is MUCH easier to tune. You dont need to play around and fiddle, and less of a PIA to get it right.

naturally with any car with High Horsepower you are going to be careful and adjust accordingly to control the power.. no one expects you to floor a 700 whp car.. you have to modulate your throttle.. just the same with 200 whp..
Look what region I am from, know who I associate with, and who i am close friends with (you wouldn't know all from here though) and then tell me I haven't done it. You're taking my opinion and getting butthurt by it. You're making too many assumptions doug and I know you're better than that given your member status on here. And YES...extremely sensitive...especially when you start hitting the powerband.

Im not saying just a "car" with that amount of HP but Z's staying on topic of this thread. Hence, my comment about rather building a Vette for higher HP to drive on the street. As far as how many Z's running those levels.... Lots? Where? I see more than a few, but also some of those are specialty cars. And how many are driven regularly? probably about ehhh, VERY few.

I'm sure Tuan is a great tuner.. but Sharif, Julian, Sam and Jeremy have also reported the FCon being much smoother than the UTEC.. i dont know how much better Tuan is than all 4 of those guys

if you are talking about Berto.. he has a UTEC.. also both our cars are simular.. my car isn't sensitive.. with the FCon its smooth.. power comes on much better than the UTEC.. actually let me go find my quote on the difference

that UTEC feeling maybe what you are talking about sensitive.. no joke my car felt slower with 500whp than 400whp because of the different in EMS

And that is why some of the smartest tuners and motor heads out there stay away from forums but I get your point, Ill just put him on ignore

I had a turbo civic but still not a 525hp civic. I didnt mean racing in the rain as I myself don't condone it. I meant as a daily driven car, rain is horrible with the Z

I think all will agree that fcon is alot easier and smoother to tune, however, I'm just saying that Tuan did a GREAT job with the utec for my particular car, to the extent that I feel no need to upgrade to fcon. Now I'm not too sure how utec will hold up with greater power...

And people want to ban this thread... I am also in between a turbo and s/c but leaning more towards a s/c for the auto-x that I do.

Guys running a TT where do you start to boost? I should say what rpm?

Guys running a single at what rpm do you see boost at?

it wasn't so much the holding of power.. its with the UTEC when you went into boost you could feel it slightly kick in like an automatic.. and then as the RPM's climbed you could feel being pushed back in your seat..

with the FCON its like driving a V8 .. it almost feels N/A .. the car is just smooth as the RPM's climb.. i am not the first member to report smoothness difference in the switch from UTEC to FCon.. i believe maximumsport just posted the same thing also..

It honestly took Jeremy 2 days to fully tune my car to where he felt it was acceptable. He still requested me to come by for some even more detail tuning on the street. But I have to say picking up the car tonight and driving it around, it drives extremely smooth.
I'm not justifying anyone spend that much more on an FCon over a UTEC.. the UTEC is great... however.. the FCon is so butter smooth.. its amazing

doug - why you think the Fcon is soo much smoother? More maps? Or just a faster output and input of readings? Can this unit tune each injector?

I could be wrong, but isn't the utec 2D while the fcon is 3D in how they handle load vs boost vs rpm

As I understand it, with the utec you can choose 2 out of those 3 variables to tune on while the fcon can program all 3

With the utec, don't most tuners choose WOT as a fixed "load" and then tune the boost and rpm tables seperately

That would solve the smoothness issue

the smoothness issue with the utec that most people have is going from non-WOT to WOT

the Fcon's tables are 32x32 and I think the utec's are 16x16 or maybe 10x16, but I forget

I think the fcon has a faster processor than the utec, but I'm not absolutely sure. It might not

I'm also not sure if the Fcon's and utec's processors are 16 or 32 bit

I just don't see why this is turning into ***** size contest.

You're happy with your twins, I'll be happy with my single. Bottom line is that everyone is different.
