Default Oil Pan question for the TN ST kit

Flame away, I searched for the last 2 hours and haven't found the answer yet, so I'm posting up. Sorry in advance, I'm sure this post exists SOMEWHERE.....

TN ST kit being delivered tomorrow. Doing the install myself, with the help of some local 350z club members who have done their own. They mentioned to me needing an oil pan spacer, or a new oil pan altogether, in order to proceed with the install.

It seems the oil pan spacer is the easiest option, but what EXACTLY do I need to order to go with that? People talk about return lines and whatnot, but I don't really know what that means... I'm a noob

Can someone help me figure out exactly what to order for the oil pan setup? Thanks in advance!

You could always find some guy with an extra Greddy oil pan and use that.

You can use a spacer like the AAM, a replacement pan like the Greddy/APS, or you can drill and tap your UPPER oil pan.

The directions that come with the kit are quite clear about how to do it if you decide to go with option 3. I would do a spacer or replacement pan, just to avoid the hassle.

I'm using a Greddy pan I found in the marketplace for my TN install.

If they have mentioned you need one and have done there own. Shouldn't they be able to answer your question? Just wondering.

But yes I would defiantly go with the AAM pan and return line. Make sure you get some high temp RTV sealant and seal it good at the fitting.

Even though the instructions don't anything about putting sealant around the flange on the bottom of the turbo that the return line goes to. I would defiantly put some on both sides of the thin paper gasket that is supplied. The paper gasket itself won't hold up. Mine didn't. If you need more little tricks on installing the kit, hit me up. It's not perfect as the instructions show. I even had to shave off some of the metal bracing below the headlight so the coupling wouldn't rub.

I like to use crush washers or viton o-rings on the pan fittings. They never leak and it looks much better than RTV.

I agree.... use copper RTV on the turbo fitting. I just threw the gasket out.

With the new watercooled turbos that come with the TN kit, do they use both oil and water? Guessing the water is an added help in keeping things cool.

Yes, it uses both. The oil still has to lubricate.

I was actually planning on installing the AAM oil pan spacer at the same time I installed my TN kit, but I ended up NOT doing so.... I've heard that the spacer is prone to leaking, even WITH RTV sealant. If I end up doing anything, it will be maybe an APS oil pan or something. For now I just use 5 quarts Mobil 1 10W30 and tapped the block like TN had instructed....
