custom gauge pod for G 56k beware
I just finished my pod for the G. The only problem is that I cheaped out and got the a/c controller from Metra when going double din at the last minute and the temp control was closer to the buttons so I had to make the hole a little bigger and its no longer a perfect circle, but oh well. I hope everyone enjoys, I sure do. I used hammered plastic spray paint, i'm going to leave the ring around the shifter silver (6mt), but paint the rest, and put the boost controller where the ashtray is. I also tested the paint on the door pulls to make sure i liked it, they turned out well too. The radio cut out wont be as rough as it looks, a finisher came with it that I haven't decided whether or not to paint yet, then i'll just use plastic epoxy to put it on to give it a clean look.
Here it is, start to finish.

Did you use a double din finisher or did you use your stock finisher and modify that? Either way I think it will look great! Nice use of that space... If you used the stock finisher, why did you purchase another AC controller - I take it that you cannot extract the stock one from the HU?

Yeah I used fiberglass and on every edge to get the transition from the pod to the finisher, i then used bondo to cover that. on the reverse side, I used the medal strapping that comes with bondo and bondo'd that in, so that wont crack either.
the a/c controls are integrated with the stock head unit face. I thought I could save money by getting the metra kit instead of the jdm and just use those controls on the factory finisher. It was close but a little off, so there will be a slight gap around the temp up/down button. I should have just orderd the jdm a/c controller, and I would have for 20 more bucks if I had known the metra wasn't an exact match.
And as far as being like the Z, its not fair that the G doesnt come with this already made haha. I've seen others mod the clock surround, but I think this hides it a little better and looks alot cleaner.

I used the universal pod from glowshift: http://www.glowshiftdirect.com/index...ROD&ProdID=241 The paint should match pretty well, the silver ring around the shifter is really going to pop once I have the other pieces painted. Hopefully it will be in the car by the end of today

Nice job!
Mine is not quite so nice, I ended up putting a single DIN radio in, and 2 gauges, plus a couple of buttons, switches and indicators below that. And I have the 'gaudy' A pillar gauge pod as well, since I wanted a total of 5 gauges.
