Default Utec or Haltech EMS?

Alright, so I'm down to the final stages of my build and I'm trying to decide if I want to go with the Utec or Haltech? Price is not a concern, just overall power, safety, drive ability, and tune quality.

Tim at Exact Dyno is tuning for me and does great work with the Utec, but he says the Haltech is a better unit and he has the new software for tuning it.

Any feedback on which option you'd recommend and why?

UTEC and Haltech are not even in the same category.

Haltech > Utec

Well, Utec in general is crap compared to everthing else out but the greddy emanage units.

Spew-Tech = headache and general P.I.A. F.I. and multiply your problems by about 3. The Haltech running parallel = smooth full control with no glitches. These are my experiences and many I know.

Thanks!

The FCon is not an option, due to the lack of tuners available. I have heard that HKS has some crazy rules for tuners to get the software. Apparently, they have to be selling a certain amount of HKS product to be able to tune.

The Haltech sounds like the way to go. I'll look at what all needs to be changed on my order to accommodate that change. Thanks for the advice!

Since you are in Mesa, AZ you might consider the ProEFI as well. It's a great unit and is becoming more advanced daily. If you want to stop by and check out how some cars run w/ the ProEFI and just check everything out we'd be more then happy to.

I don't know anything about that EMS. Who makes that unit? Here is what I'm looking for:
4-6 MAPS
600-650 WHP Safely
Easy changing of MAPS and easy to read/understand feedback
Non-piggyback setup (ideally)
I don't want to lose the dash

You could do 600whp on the UTEC with no issues if you wanted to go cheap. If the UTEC is tuned correctly you will not have any issues with it, and you will not know it's there. For more power you will have to go with one of the other 3 options already mentioned.

Why would you need 4-6 maps?

Its really nice having the options of three or four maps and boost levels.

But, i would say with the problems people are having with the utec and TurboXS's lack of updating the utec, go haltech.

UTEC, for the price, is a decent EMS. However, given that you said price is not a concern, Haltech is much, much better.

Even if price is a concern, I would say go slightly cheaper in some other area, and get the Haltech.

What problems are people having with the UTEC?

I never understood peoples need for different maps with different boost levles. I have 565whp and I don't see the need for other maps. If i were to run different octanes then there would be a need for additional maps. Unless your doing that it's pointless.

There are a few people in the Denver area that have had gliches, or rough transitions with the UTEC. Also it throws a service engine light that nobody up here at altitude can figure out.

I will be running 91 for DD (nothing higher at the pumps here in AZ). I want to run C16 for track nights, and I'll need winter and summer maps due to the huge temp differences (115 in the summer).

The rough transition is all in the tune. When jeremy first tuned my UTEC there was a pretty obvious transition. We took it out on the street and worked it out. Now it's completely seamless in it's transition.

The UTEC will compensate for the temperature difference. Any small adjustments to A/F can be made with the fuel pressure regulator.
