Welcome to the world of the utec. Everyone complains about this when they change injectors. Here is the simplest way to explain the problem. Thanks turbo xs.

The main issue with the utec is the way they rescale the injectors. When you start your car the stock ecu can't handle anything larger than 440-500cc injectors. The utec doesn't come into play until the car is started and then you have to deal with the transitioning between the 0% and 10-100% columes depending on throttle position. To make it a little easier your going from a large minus in fuel to a big plus. I hope this helps you understand.

you wouldn't happen to have a Graph of your Dyno? It sounds like Sharif played with the cam timing values, how did it affect the power output?

The Haltech PNP is hands down the best system out there right now for the 350Z. Congrats on your numbers! It is fun getting to push the limits when you have a backup plan already in place. Chances are, the engine will last a long time. They only break when you don't want them to.

yeah I have really started thinking about it. Guess I will have to pester Sharif with some more questions at the upcoming Dyno Day. I thought I would be happy for a while at 405whp. . .

I'm curious about something; on your old tune, you said you were at 10psi you were making 437whp. But now, with an even better EMS, meth, and an additional 2psi, its only making another 24whp. Don't get me wrong, your car is making great power, but it would seem to me that with the new mods and the extra 2psi, you'd net a little more power.

Good point and I'll even add to that. On my new Haltech 10psi tune, i only made like 410whp. That is 27 whp less that my UTEC tune.

The only thing I can think of thats making the difference is when I made the 437 #, I was on the stock wheels/tires (the LE's were rubbing too bad and I didnt have my fenders rolled). I know this isnt the reason for a 27whp difference but its deff some of it.

The stock wheels plus just a different day on the dyno is all we can attribute the # difference from. And since i havent yet ran my Haltech 10psi tune, i cant say if it feels the same as my 10psi/437whp UTEC tune.

To me, its really only a number. I really do love the way the Haltech feels now and the car is still strong.

IIRC, Louie also had a power decrease when he switched to the FCON from the UTEC, but he ran faster 1/4 times and faster traps.

I can't speak for the op, but he could have gotten the tune a tad bit richer since he is running ALOT of power on a stock block.

Also the ems really wouldn't allow him to make more power. The haltech just allows for more stability, control, and consistency over the utec.

That is just about right for a stock block, remember stock block, no cams ect. 24lbs is really good.

Congrats with your new power and dont be scared to drive it a little hard.

Good point. In this application (relatively low boost), I agree that something like the Haltech or the FCON won't really add power, but I would imagine in more highly tuned applications the extra granularity in adjustments would allow for a little more power. I might be totally off though.

keep in mind that sharif is tuning to minimize cylinder stress on that stock block. i'm sure that there is plenty more power waiting for some stronger rods

"Cranking inj time" is one varable, but what I'm referring to is "Inj Dead Time"

what is it set at?

mine looks like this, and this resolved my starting and idle
