Also, FYI for whatever reason.....the Mini's do a Midnight Dragon run.......don't know why...the last thing I'd want to do is drive it at night.
But evidently the cops had to know about this somehow....because they were even parked waiting on people to screw up coming back from this. At frickin midnight!!!

May 2-4 : Probably the busiest week-end so far this year with MiniCoopers dominating the area roads. A power failure in the Deals Gap/Fontana area made things a little difficult on Saturday. We heard NCHP were active on the Cherohala and on the 4-lanes. Remember, the 4-lanes are prime target areas in North Carolina.>> CLICK HERE FOR MAP
We heard a number of cars were ticketed on NC 28 while driving in a group even though only one was actually clocked. Troopers use "probable cause" to write the entire group. We suggest complaining by phone to the Clerk of Court or County DA about such outrageous tickets. Contact us for more information here.
There is an unmarked white BCSO Expedition cruising the Dragon. They also have an unmarked black Explorer and black Mercury Marquis. We have also heard of tickets issued for 42 and 44 mph in the ridiculous 30 mph area.
The prime target area in Tennessee is on US 129 along the Little Tennessee River just to the north of the Dragon. Minor tickets including speeding issued by Blount County SO (not THP) can be settled for $10 .... Call the Blount County TN Clerk of Court for info. Watch your speed on the 4-lanes in North Carolina.

I was just up in the Smokey Mountains area (28/129) during April 29th - May 3rd. Honestly the LEO presence was minimal compared to the last year I went, this trip was right after that poor kid on the Busa wrung out 1st gear and flew off a cliff.
When people say to watch your speed on the two lane roads, WATCH YOUR SPEED ON TWO LANED ROADS. It's the easiest section for the LEO to grab you. The single lane sections make it a bit harder, especially if there's traffic.
I did my 2,300 mile trip from Orlando on my VFR and about 1,100 miles of that was in the immediate Smokey Mountains area. Just be smart and you won't have to worry about the LEO. Watch for motorcycles tapping the top of their heads, it's an immediate sign of an upcoming LEO.
Good luck and enjoy the roads! Know your limits.... the drop off some of those cliffs are scary high...
