Default Oil consumption on FI cars....

So I had a TN kit installed on my 05 Z at the end of Feb. It was suggested to install the AAM oil pan spacer to add an extra quart of oil, but I had been hearing that these were prone to leaking.

I have put 1,900 miles on the car since then and I just did my first oil change today. I had been noticing that oil pressure seemed a bit low. And when I checked the oil stick, the oil level was RIGHT near the "L", meaning it was pretty low So luckily I changed the oil early.

When I flushed the old oil, it was BLACK! So I'm sure the car obviously gets put through much more stress, but does the oil ALWAYS go this fast??? And I know that it burns a bit more oil, but it seems to burn through it PRETTY fast...

Soooo, Can anyone share their experience with their oil on their FI car?

And is this why the EXTRA quart is recommended? I'm not too sure how the oil flow goes on this car, but it would seem that if I add an oil pan spacer or deeper oil pan, that the oil will just sit "deeper" and not exactly ALL flow through, if that makes any sense Can anyone enlighten me?

your oil was black @ 1,900 miles? thats nuts, go with a thicker based oil. most spacers are for oil return lines if you dont want to mess the stock pan.

in regards to oil, go with Mobil 1 15w50

going thick cuz the oil's black is a very bad idea. OP needs to get that checked out. 15-50 is too thick imo.

I'm not sure if i can buy into this bigger oil pan thing especially spacers. good maintenance and punctual oil change will keep your car running smooth.

i have been running 15/40 full synthetic lucas oil since day one. especially in florida, where the climate is always hot. I am a firm believer in it. I had a small engine donated to my shop where we ran Lucas 15/40 oil thru for a couple of hours then drained the oil out. With no oil the motor ran for 26 solid minutes until it caught on fire. Any other oil and it would have blown a rod in minutes.

First you don't say how many miles you have on the car. Is the car a rev up, did it ever consume any oil that you noticed? Next it's not unusual to consume oil when you go FI, you may be a little premature with this. You really have to pay attention to your oil level now if you don't your looking for trouble. Now my car uses about 1qt of oil in 3k with mobile1 10/40 synthetic. I have 61k on the car and 31k with the turbos stock block.

Black as hell, I oil change every 2k miles with vortech setup 10wd30

I change it every 2k miles. and run on 6.5 qrts

yes there is more stress and the bearings on the blower grind the oil a lot more.

Chris what type of oil are you using weight and brand. Are you using a FULL SYNTHETIC and not a blend?

Who told you the AAM spacer leaks? Mine hasn't in over 15k miles it's been on the car. There are several benefits to having an extra quart of oil capacity. More oil = more thermal capacity for one. More oil = slower breakdown is another. You WILL consume more oil now, that's a given, just keep a closer eye on it.
