Anyway, my question I want to go to the next level and get a water/methanol injection kit installed....any ideas if that is CARB legal? I have a feeling that the answer to that one is a big fat "NO"...

Also...would it help if I get pulled over if I have a CARB sticker for my Vortech on my hood? I got my Vortech used so I never got the sticker...
Call Vortech, they should send you a sticker in the mail, they may ask for the serial number on the kit but that's about it.

When I had mine I got it just before they were CARB approved so I had no sticker, I just called and they sent it to me a week later.

Here's a link to the database that lists LEGAL CARB mods. The HKS S/C is finally listed.

Thumbs up

Being from the only state in the US w/ a recon law (unmod-friendly state) i once got pulled over and got 5 tickets. i got out of the modified exhaust by telling the judge this:

you honor. how does the cop know the exhaust is modified? is he or she a trained mechanic? if so, are they ACE qualified? if not, claim you dont have a modified exhaust. the judge will mostly likely take your side on this matter. at least that was my experience @ HI traffic court during the discovery phase of the trail. let me know how it goes in LA.

lets say taking the kit off and putting it back on is not that hard for you since it will only be required every 2 years, do you have to get it tuned again?
bump for my question

A:
Pretty much. Emissions testing entails 2 tests: visual and sniffer. Take of the kit to pass the visual (this is obvious) and the sniffer tests. You can always put the kit back on after the certificate is issued that your car has passed both tests. Lets see how I'll fair with a naturally aspirated low comp motor. High HC readings anyone?

A:
Assuming you have engine management that stores the tuned maps, I would say no. Just plug n' play, but please confirm with your tuner first that your map has been loaded completely and correctly before boosting.

HC readings = Hydrocarbon readings (related to unburnt fuel)

^ Goodness gracious... I need me one of those.

Last Saturday, I dropped my mom off at LAX cuz she needed to go home (overseas). Well anyway, I was cruising at 15 mph within the airport and merged onto the ramp to hit the 105 E. I accelerated minimally and next thing I know there was a CHP right on my tail. I switched lanes thinking he needed room... not a chance. He turned on his lights and I was pulled over.

We had a brief conversation regarding my modified exhaust. I told him it was a GReddy and the company creates 50 state legal exhausts. He nods and confirms that it wasn't loud at all compared to other exhaust with tip size of that caliber. He asks me if I have cats on. Yes, I nod. He looks underneath the car and asks me if I had any warrants regarding street racing, reckless driving, tickets, suspended license, recent accidents, etc. No to all, except for a speeding ticket I had last year due to being late for work and he confirmed on his spiffy walkie talkie. He then asks me to pop open my hood. In that moment, my life flashed before my eyes... the CHP wanted to take my daily fix away. He opened the hood and I saw his helmet nod up and down. He knew what I had. I am ****ed. Facepalm.

The hood closes and tells me, "Go along the flow of traffic and be on your way safely. By the way, I have a Magnaflow on my ride." I sat in my car for good 10 minutes realizing WTF just happened.

Either my driving record pleased the cop or I was damned lucky...
I've heard on the news the police are cracking down modified cars heavily due to some recent street racing incidents. Drive safe people.

My cousin lives in Arizona. I am thinking of transferring a few of my bills to his house and going to AZ to get my car registered.

What kind of problems am I going to have with AZ plates and CA license?

I am self-employed so saying I travel back and forth between AZ and Cali be a good enough excuse?

from what i have read its bascially the luck of the draw?

So the only way you get arrested or having turbo goes on your record is if you dont take it off?

this is what i am most worried about

You might want to ask Kal El about it...he's got a turbo setup and has his car registered in Colorado, I believe...

This is exactly why we bought the GT-R - I wanted something factory fast. Something that could be made faster with a simple computer flash. I'm getting too old (34) to have to play these games with the cops.
