After thinking about this alot I think I am just going to part out my car and trade it in for something else. After almost 2 years of modding, I have just become bored with the car and looking for new things to do to keep me interested in it. I cant even imagine spending the amount of money to get my car where I want it to be. I think it would be in my best interest to just sell and move on....

Doesn't sound like a bad idea, I would consider:

C6 Z06

996/997 Turbo

GT-R

M3/M5

05/06 Aston Martin DB9

All those cars will be alot of fun out of the box, just add wheels/exhaust and your done!

I think what Im going to do is sell everything, buy a nice DD, and buy a house. Then save from that point for the next car. Im 20 and need to start thinking about my future instead of what my car habbit now.

careful ridder, resposibility is a slippery slope!

first its a house, then its a wedding, then funishings and family vacations, then its a kid (or kids), then college and retirement funds.

next thing you know, your at your mid life crisis and dying to spend all kinds of money to buy a car just like the one you had when you were in high school or college

good luck with your decision - i went the above route and dont regret a thing, i now have more toys than time to enjoy them.

Think about what you could get for $45,000 dollars these days. You could get a 996 twin turbo for about $45,000 with an extended warranty. I would so take that over my car at this point. I would sell the Z and put the money towards a nice 996TT. It's a much better deal. And anybody with a 996TT is a true baller.

Buy yourself a nice pimp pad! Now you're talking!

After they deny you a mortgage... then you can modify the crap out of your car!

Even more truth to it at my age... But I really don't see the Z as being a young persons car, due to Z's being around since the early 70's..so really it is for us older guys..

Yeah...buy the 911 turbo and when things keep going run with it ( that NON porsche warranty you get is not worth JACK) and it cost you the price of 9 Z/G to keep it running....dont come back crying

Been there done that...still have the wallet injury from that crap. If you are going to get a porsche...get a NA version..GT3, Cayman-S.

If you are going to buy a Porsche Turbo..make sure its a new one with a Porsche Warranty ...and trade it in before the warranty is up!!!

BTW that Porsche in stock form will not even come close to a G/Z with 500+ whp.

I'm in this EXACT same spot. I'll hopefully be finishing up school in the next couple of years, and I'd like to have some money for stuff like a house (gotta furnish that house too, don't forget). It's never to early to think about retirement either (I know, I know, I'm just saying.) Eventually, I'm going to start my own company, and then hopefully I'll have money for some nice toys.

This car means a lot to me, and I look at modding it as a long term thing, and a hobby that I can enjoy for a long time.

James....you are doing it the right way..school first. Everything else will fall in place.

Also remember..."Its easier to Mod a car when the car is fully paid off"

LOL, if it were only that simple. I'm sure you know but there are a LOT of Porsche tuners out there (Rinspeed, TechArt, Gemballa, 9ff, Ruf, Sportec, etc). Eventually, I'd get bored with the car and start looking to upgrade stuff. First it'd be small stuff, but afteer a while, it'd be be much bigger stuff.

At that point, you could say "Well, James, you could have just bought a (Insert super car of your choice) with that money...and so on." And you'd be exactly right. But they make aftermarket parts for Ferrari's too (Tubi exhausts go for like $6000 IIRC).

So at the end of the day, its a never-ending debate. I personally love my car, and I want to see it through to the end in regards to modifying it. Sharif said it well, the car thing should be a hobby. I don't care if I don't see one red cent back from my little build, because the enjoyment I've gotten from the car, directly and indirectly, has been well worth the price of admission.

Remember guys, the grass always seems greener on the Porsche/GT-R/Z06 side, but they have they're problems just like us. And eventually, there will be a new version of each of those too, and you'll be kicking yourself in the *** wondering why you didn't just wait for it. Its easy to pick the car apart for its failings, but when I'm having a great time with the car in the mountains (*waits for jokes*) or I'm not even thinking about that.

I'm sort of proud of myself. I've been able to hold back on FI or really any power mods until the car is paid off (3 more years). If I still have the Z then, I'll probably go FI. Though after my past 400-500hp B20/B16 build, I feel the Z really only needs about 100 more WHP to feel like what I want it to have, it's just a really heavy car for >300 flywheel HP. Maybe decide against it though and see how the used GTR's are holding up.

But if I could honestly go back, I probably would of went with a new Z06 or even waited for the vette coming out if I would of knew about it...oh well...
