Right and I agree with you. Houses in RTP have gone crazy but it's not nearly as bad as Conn. (any upper eastern state for that matter) is.

food is overrated. quit eating and you'll have your turbo.. there would be some weight reduction mod as well, cuz you'll weigh like 100lbs.

27... Work my a$$ off at a good job and had prior investments treat me well. I love the car and I love modding. Its a hobby though NOT an investment. This is my first FI plunge and it took time to do it and not sacrifice the way I like to live and other things I like to do and prioritize (owned the car since early 03).

IMO if you see it being a stretch then it's probably not a good idea for you. There are MANY things more important to me than a fast car...like family and quality of life and future. Those come first...some of us are just fortunate to be where we are today and probably sacrificed at some point to get there.

Even with that though, many who are built and FI still have their limits. Sometimes you just have to say no or just not go any further and enjoy what you have. To go even further and FI, it's a luxury and ONLY for expendable income. Don't use your kids college fund or put your financial future at risk to do it. Thats just plain stupid.

i own a construction biz and got lucky to bid on a big commercial job. turned in bid, 5 days later i started the job and cancelled the other jobs i had. time limit was almost ludicrus for the job, so bid was high. way high, with 5 employees i cleared $75k in 5 weeks!! i do all the work myself on my car and am still very cost conscience, so i took the rest and bought a bunch of other crap and partied my *** off for a couple months after that, lol.
i still make a very good living, but that was a super bump of wtf money. i bought the Z cause i was out of control with vettes, and built them to far to be a fun driver anymore. the Z was supposed to stay stock while the vettes were the fun ones. oh well, i guess i just don't learn!! haha
svrtech never made a penny compared to how much advertising it did with the shop car, if ya catch my drift, lol.

btw-still waiting for another job like that one to come around, lol.

you don't have to spend quite that much to go FI. It can be done on a budget and from what I've seen if you stay conservative on a stock block you can get more longevity than an aggressively tuned built setup (at least in my case). As far as how to get the money.... Put on the red light? Sell crack? Pyramid Scheme? Or just work really hard at your job to the point where they give you 5 digit bonuses

I'm sure its been said before but smart shopping for your kit, a lot of working, a decent paying job helps (overtime FTMFW). Careful planning and DIY'ers have it a little better off than other.

Take Jeffie for example, he did his whole install on his own. Most others would pay close to $3k just for the install. thats $4k saved. Ofcourse you get task of doing all the painstaking work but all in the name of saving money. Thats $3k can now go towards tuning, guages, clutch, etc and so your money saved is helping out.

Most of us are still paying off the Z, and we would like to have it payed off before modding but most of us cant help it and want to get more out of the car instead of waiting 3-5 years before its paid off.

Also balance helps. If you want to F/I and you need to save its going to take certain cut backs if your willing to make sacrifices. Dont go out to eat as much, that $200 bottle of Vodka... may want to cut back on that, and so forth. Once you shift your budget to make due or cut back on certain things, that extra money should go to your F/I fund and start buying pieces you need one by one. Cause i'm sure if you just leave it in an account and wait to have the whole amount and then buy everything, it wont happen cause you'll get temped to spend the money.

or just black mail your local congressman/congresswoman for about $30k and go F/I and with the change left over (if any) take a nice trip somewhere.

people who loves their cars, never sell their car at least not for a crackhead price. any heavily modded cars you lucky if you breakeven with parts. you will never get back labor. thats y everyone who loves their cars should try "do it yourself" until to the point you have to pay for labor ( such as engine building and tuning)

Be careful on this. Even if the car is owned by the company and used for 100% company use (as mine is), mods are not an expense. They ARE going to be written off eventually as you depreciate your vehicle, but they are not expenses which are written off immediately. You need to capitalize the mods along with the asset.

I made this mistake last year and paid a lot of extra taxes as a result.
