Default Money for turbo??

I was just curious how all the people that have added forced induction to their Z's got the money to do it? I'm not hurting for money by any means, and both myself and my fiance have good jobs that pay well. But still, I'm just not sure how I'll ever be able to have $20,000+ to properly do this. I mean with both of our car payments, house payment, student loans, bills, etc. It's really kind of hard to put that kind of money away. We have started saving, but at the rate were going it will be 3-4 years before I can actually do this. I really don't want to wait that long.
I have considered financing it (taking out a loan)...but have heard many opinions that that is a really bad idea. So do you guys have any advice? Maybe some of you could offer what you did to get the money? I think some of these shops need to offer a payment plan or credit card or something!!! lol

What ever you do I would NOT recommend dropping FI on a credit card or financing it. If you ever have a mishap you will not only be subject to paying the dept but covering costs of repairs. If you can afford to play than maybe you should not. Engine repairs and tuning can get very pricey so either do it right the first time or it will cost more in the long run.

Prioritize on what you really want. I wouldn't go into debt personally. You could also learn how to do a lot of the work yourself, or find a friend that can help. Think about it: would you rather spend $20k or 3-4 years to buy something, or to acquire a new skill that will pay off over a lifetime?

+1 OP, I've come close to slapping down a CC a couple of times, but I have luckily thought better of it. I don't know how people do it.

i wouldnt do it if i were in your position it just isnt worth it, why go through all that trouble your going through plus more?? Like most of the guys have said you gotta pay to play, it aint easy. When times get really tough do ya really want to think 'damn why'd i spend all that money on my ride when i could have used it for an in case you ever had to sell it you would never get what you put into it you know. Take ya time an think about it ultimately its up to you.

I bought my Floormats and clear corners on CC.

I was able to go FI using some money I was saving for a new watch. When it came down to it, I drive my car everyday...and I hate watches. So it made sense to me.

I got my turbo by refusing to pay my child support. It's all about priorities.

Almost no one (there are exceptions I know) at that age just has 15k or more laying around to spend on their car mods without going into debt. I really don't think its all from saving up either as I know how little I made in college or right out of college and the little extra money I had laying around at that age. I guess some people just don't realize or care how difficult it is to pay off that kind of debt.

agreed....to each their own i guess

+1. I would not recommend financing F/I.

Not even F/I...I trip off the guys with $4-$5k wheels, stereos, custom paint, etc, etc. and especially the guys/gals who put it all on at the same time~!

A new 350Z..around $30k. + F/I...around $20K.

I love my Z. I would kill for F/I. But if I had $50K, $20 of which was in cold, hard, cash I would either:
1) not buy a Z.
2) pay off my Z.

Can someone breakown the whole price of FI for me. I wanted to do it in the future but I had no clue it would cost $15-20K. I'm a newb when it comes to this type of stuff. I just thought for example: Turbonetics single turbo kit (which is supposed to have everything needed) for $5K so is install and tune really $10-15K or is there something I just don't know?

I would say that most are typical americans and up to there eyeballs in debt. I am considering financing a blower for mine, but its only $5k plus a tune and i already have the supporting mods with a paid off car.

Just kidding.
Proper EMS, Gauges, other upgrades (clutch, wheels/tires, brakes, etc), watch the numbers add up.
FWIW, I already dropped over 10 K into mine (over a few years) and I am not even close to be FI ready.

keep in mind although you may get a complete kit you still need additional accessories. Gauges, Pillar pod, Turbo Timer and such so you have to factor that also. The install and tune alone may dance around a few grand or more so that is something to consider also unless you are mechanically inclined to handle the install yourself.
