I am one of the stupid ones who put it all on a credit card. I am not paying interest since it is 0% for the year. The cost is more than I originally planned. I have a great job that pays well and a plan to pay it off. The problem is...that plan will go to **** if the motor decides to blow or something expensive decides to take a dump. Even if something expensive doesn't go, you can be nickel and dimed to death with towing bills, GAS, tickets, etc. etc. I ordered my kit right before gas topped 4....I was paying about 3.75 a gallon high premium...now it is 4.40+....$16-20 a tank more and I can't keep my foot out of the gas because I PAID so much to go fast.

Was it smart? not really. Did it make me happy? yes. Will i be able to go back in time when I am 40 and turn 24 again? NO. If you want it, you gotta go get it. If I start falling behind, I am going to get an easy part time job. Honestly, if you want it bad enough, you can ALWAYS find a way to make it work.

the best way to go FI in my opinion..let someone else do all the work and then get a smokin deal on the car...Guy I bought mine from spent 20K and then lost a job, was in the middle of a career change and needed the money more than the car. I found the car..was looking for MONTHS and it was dropped in my lap..I paid less for my built motor Greddy TT Z than most of you bought yours new stock for..
Im also in kind of a unique position, in that its not my DD..Its a weekend date night car and road racer for me! Im blessed no doubt..

sell crack bitches!

i am in the same boat, i bought a house then sold my turbo honda and bought my g with every intention of boosting it, then i realized the costs!! 2 years later i have wheels, exhaust, plenum spacer and i just bought the kurumaZ front bumper, and with the price of gas i think the last thing on my list is a reflash. it might not be the fastest thing out there, but it looks better doing it.

I am 32 years old. I have worked hard to get where I am. My house is paid off and I own four cars all paid off. My Z is my fun car ( 2003 with just 18,000 mi) I just had TT's installed on a stock block all paid for with money I won't miss. I could have gone with a built motor but i just couldn't justify the cost to myself. I guess if i blow the motor I will build, but with my driving style plus how much I drive the vehicle I don't see me ever blowing the motor.

you can have a reliable boosted Z for under 6k using all new parts.

Deatchwork Injectors
Utec
Vortech Tuner kit
Tune
walbro
= 380 whp Dynojet 340 on a DD

I went with a new kit, used inj and utec. Added gauges and did all the labor except tuning. I was under 6k OTD.

Will be upgrading to a 3.12 pulley and hopefully a new plenum later

Just paid cash for all of my work...around $50k worth. I would never finance mods on a car; that's not wise at all. Of course, putting this much money into a car is not "wise" by some people's standards, but you do what you love. When mine is all done next week, a lot of people will love what I've done and a lot will think it was a waste of money (should have bought a ...fill in high end car that they love...).

how do you even know that? how many FI people have you had a conversation with that you can make a statement like that? whats the average of FI owners that you know that are even in that category?

I usually don't post to these threads cause they blow up and I'm an arrogant azz about money but I work way hard for mine and so does (did) most who have it. I pay for it by being out of town 2-4-6 days a week on meetings.

I'd say do not under any circumstances put it on credit man. Most of the stuff I've bought on this forum has been purchased from somebody at a fraction of what they paid because they decided it was time to pay off debts. Soooo many people go into to too much debt because they think they'll do it on the cheap but you'll always need or want more and do it and if you can't pay cash your fukin yurself and the rest of us in the US with the debt/bankruptcy etc... Only thing you should ever finance in life is your primary residence because the tax writeoff capability combined with the interest you'll make on the 3-500K paying for a house will outweigh the mortgage interest.

Also, seriously do not FI your DD. I'm sure you can have it done at a quicker pace than I but I have 2 Zs right now because it was soo much time to put mine together that I bought another one that was already done. Guess what's happening to the new one? It's going through some downtime because of a tranny problem and more upgrades hahaha.

At the end of the day expect 20-30K on top of the car to have a somewhat reliable build. The guy that I bought the car from put 40K (I have all receipts) into the car he paid 39K for. Don't even want to know what I paid (way less) and now I'm putting about 10-15K into it on top of that. This is a spendy habbit and if ya really have a need for cheap speed buy a busa. No matter how fast my car is or will be it never really compares to my bike.

Just my 3 cents

I've never once paid for a part on my Z with credit. The car is all paid off and I owe nothing on it. It's absolutely not worth going in debt over.

For all you CC users....rule of thumb, don't have more than 30% of debt on you total CC limit. God forbid you're late on a payment and watch that 2.9 go to 20.9....

Wonder how many will be honest about their annual income (including spouse).

$25k-35k
35k-50k
50k-75k
75k-100k
100k-150k
150k-200k
200k+

No lying DOUG or you will be sentenced to a weekend with BG

If your motor blows on a stock set up why build it? Just buy another one for a fraction of the cost to build....

To avoid continuously blowing up stock engines that aren't designed for lots of power?

I know that you think you know everything, but how is it not true? Its not just with cars either. You tell me where the majority of especially the 18-22 year olds on here get the 15k+ to FI their cars on top of living expenses, car note, gas, entertainment, etc. In reality people at that age don't make the 100k+ a year they would like people to believe. Again we make very good money and without saving for a very long time, I couldn't come up with that cash to put into a vehicle. Again I am not speaking for everyone of coarse, but there is a large chunk of people in huge debt due to their cars. You are kidding yourself if you don't think there are a large number of people that are in huge debt due to their cars.

Also how many threads do you see on here day after day with people selling stuff off their cars not too long after having stuff installed saying they are in serious need to sell because of some serious money issue they are in?
i'm just curious how you came to that conclusion.. and how many Z owners on this forum with FI you know in that category..

me personally.. my credit card with the biggest limit is $800 .. for which i like because its good for semi-emergency situations..

from what i can see from FI Owners on this forum.. they are mainly 2 categories i have observed..

25+ great job.. hard working and making good money category.. GMan, r0mey, coachK, XKR, Ron.. couple of GTM's customers..

under 25 great parents... kids who their parents feel they deserve all they have given them..

maybe i havn't met many people in YOUR category.. but this is what i came up with..
