Exclamation ATI Procharger belt tightening issues...

Now i have been changing these two belts for about 2 yrs(880-8MGT30, 560-9MGT30).... But i finally got the main belt tightened perfect.. but the belt behind the sc is too lose and i cant get it any tighter.. I already have it turned fully to the right clockwise position(using the three allen key bolts).. WTF gives... Theres way too much play and causing 3 belts to break in the past 3wks.....

Any info on the belt tightening methods would be good.. I know how to tighten the main belt with the bolt on the 880 belt.. The other belt you loosen allen keys to turn them to the right/clockwise and tighten the small 560 belt.. but there must be more ways to tighten cause my 560 belt has at least one inch of play.. what am i missing???????

When I had my procharger, the clog belt in the back was loose and I never had any problems. I know what you mean by moving the blower back and forth, either the main clog belt was tight and the back one was loose. Then when you move it again the back clog belt is tight and the front was loose. The only thing you can do is move your belt tension pulley on top of the belt or if you already have it there put it on the bottom.

I just installed my procharger...so I have NO miles on it yet...but it looked to me, that if i installed the belt that is ON hte procharger first...then you turn the eccentric gear or whatever (the the allen screws) COUNTERclockwise, it tightens that back belt perfectly. Next, install the front cog belt, and loosen that idler pulley/tensioner and run that cog belt over that pulley, then crank the tensioner bolt clockwise til you get that belt tight enough...then tighten down that idler pulley...and boom, it was perfect...or so it seemed on mine anyways? I hope!!

good luck!

So your saying you had to install the procharger belt first? For my procharger i have to turn the allen screws clockwise to tighten..

thing about that is if i put it on the bottom then i have the bolt problems where it moves around(nothing holds it down from going up).... ill try putting the tension pulley on bottom again though..

I turn the allen screws clockwise to tighten them...but when they are loosened, you turn that center circle thing...haha...technical term there, i know. But its the circle that has holes in it all around...it's the piece that those allen bolts screw into. Anyways, so you rotate it counterclockwise (if you are facing the engine from the front of the car) while those allen bolts are loose...this will tighten that belt...and once it's where you want it...then tighten those allen bolts down. AFTER you do that...then you adjust the tension on the front cog belt...

Maybe you are already doing this and still having issues...but it doesn't look like i'im gonna have issues...they are both tensioned properly it looks like...

If this post didn't make any sense to you...let me know...i might be able to make a short vid to put on youtube to show you what I mean...

Thanks so much SD!!!!!! You got me thinking.. It wasnt tightening for me going counter clockwise.. So i just took all the allen screw bolts out.. then turned it counter clockwise about full 180 and i saw holes in the circle piece (never saw the holes in it before!!!) and it hit me.. It was rotated wrong all these YEARS@!!! ***!! Not trying to point fingers but im glad i fixed this.. I placed my allen key in the hole to pull it counterclock wise for a good tight fit.. Ill let you guys know how im running full boost now.. Im also going to buy the GT3 belts on monday and try those out.. they are supposed to be 30percent stronger than GT2... Damn, now i got both belts at a good strong tightness (crossing fingers for no slip)..

Im glad i made this thread as it solved my problem.. Preciate it guys..

This is what my sc was supposed to be like.. but improperly installed there was no where to adjust the small pulley(no hole to place a screwdriver for tightening)... This could have saved me at least 20+ belts.....

Waiting on a camera holder/friend to vid a quick wot..

EXACTLY!!! it was hard to put into words, but i'm glad you figured it out. I'd be a little irritated at the shop who did the install about that one...but that's just me. Anyways, glad you got it ironed out, and can't wait to hear that thing go!

I just finished my install today. I had some serious issues getting the air intake to fit under the bumper properly...that tube was just too big to fit right...so now my bumper is flexed a little bit. Now it's just a waiting game until I can get down to the tuner and have the EMS, HFCs, WB O2s, and Boost gauge installed...and then tuned. I can hardly wait!!

My camera is charging.. will take a short vid in a bit..

sounds good!! These things whistle like crazy!!

Just a quick question...i might end up making a post about this later...but maybe you know...

I've installed:

1) ATI procharger
2) Walbro
3) Plenum Spacer

All in the past week. Today, I finally got it all put back together...but am not running the front belt on the supercharger as i'm waiting for the tune. So, I wanted to see how it was running. Everything seemed ok...EXCEPT....when I shift hard...in between any gears it seems like...the car almost goes into a limp mode or something. Low Power...but i'm not limited to 2500 RPM or anything. Just no power. Then when I let off the gas, I can get back on it, and have full power clear to redline...no problems until the next shift.

Could this be because of the added restriction of the supercharger being inline with the air filter but not being driven? OR did i mess up on the install of something else? I'm at a loss here...

I wouldnt worry about anything until you get a tune.. Try not to even drive it without a tune.. Both SC belts should be off btw if you must drive it..

U dont need to have both off but imo i would take both off if im not running the sc because of unneeded sc running/ sc oil changes..

BTW i have done several wot runs today at 6k+ rpm and no belt issues at all.. I usually see belt fraying and tearing.. but i think its finally solved.. I am both happy and pissed off at the same time.. happy because i wont be spending mucho$ on belts but pissed because i have spent over 1k on belts so far... all for nothing...
