Powerlab on 8.5 psi tuned safely made around 380-390 ish. very fun car to drive and full boost right around 3000 rpms.
remember thats also through the 5AT so on a 6MT it would make over 400 at that same psi...

I personally would stick with the SCer over a Turbonetic single turbo . Yes...you will make better trq. but the cost of swapping it out wouldnt be worth it . And the TN single doesnt have that much room to make more power .

I ran the Vortech with alot of bearing problems......I dumped it for the STS kit with a MBC, APS Plenum, Flywheel and 6 puck clutch...Verdict= Love it! My STS will slam my old Vortech kit hands down. Also, STS is fairly affordable yet I don't know how it compares to the powerlab. If it's running well and reliable don't change it out (too much hassle and cost). I don't run AT but maybe a Stillen's valve body upgrade will help. Sentry has the best input re Vortech IMO.

I like my Vortech kit, but I also have already been tossing around the idea of swapping it out for the STS kit. Really though - the only reason I've been thinking that is because of these forums. Once I get away from here for a while, and go drive my car, I realize it's fun enough.
If anything, I would save up, build a motor, and go twins or something that makes a built motor worth it. But i'm not about to go through the hassle of selling my current kit to buy a different one, and still not be completely satisfied.

yeah, there will always be more. Work in sales, so the more i want, the more money i make.....
I was throwing around the next goals and money spent, it seemed more reasonable to spend 3-3.5k swapping to a single turbo and getting 70-80 tq and 20-30 hp than spending that money maxing out a SC with the 2.87 pulley. And since the headers and other breething mods dont exactly transfer over, the turbo is sounding appealing. Love the vortech in so many ways, wouldnt mind more power and less noise though....

i've been debating the same thing.
I want 400 whp and a 12 sec car (stock block/tranny) and it sounds like a single turbo and vortech could do the same thing. Just that the vortech is maxxed out at that level where as the single turbo may be 70% maxxed out?? (just throwing a figure out there)
So for someone starting out fresh from stock, would the single turbo be the most "cost efficient" and more reliable way to reach those goals??

single turbos are cheaper installing and maintining than twins... with SCs ...i guess may be a bit cheaper, but again, with turbo you also not jsut get 400whp, you get about 100lbs of torque more than SC...
....and its more like 61% btw

I just put on my flame suit to ask this question. Twins are fast and very trick...capable of huge HP. But, is it really that much better than a good single kit when comparing cost and install efforts?? Flame suit off now.

^ Good question. I'll have to share a flame suit for this one too since I'm curious.
On the mkiv Supras, people are always changing to single turbo setups, but I believe this would probably because it is an inline 6 engine and to keep the install and piping simple.
For the Z33, because of the 'V' configuration of the engine (collectors on each side) it makes it a good choice to run twin turbos on this car I would assume.

my findings have always been a decent single turbo can be done around 7-9k installed tuned and works. A twin setup typically adds another 2k ish. Twins typically have less lag and make more efficient power since less heat is generated by 2 turbos doing the work as opposed to 1.
Simple thought process is, twins are better, but you pay for the improvements. If stock block, doubt the difference is worth it.

My point is....I have a crap load of USEABLE power with my single (400WHP). I know more can be had but getting more power to the ground is tough,...dollar for dollar, single turbo was a better choice for me and is way faster than my previous Vortech set up. Just food for thought I guess.
