Default My Shop Built Z Blog

First have to say thanks to Marty and Hal @ Injected for putting up with me, I must be one of those helicopter parents when i comes to my Z.

The story has no ending yet but will post results as I receive them.

My friends and I tried to install a JWT TT, after spending countless dollars on fabricating my own oil lines and water line, when it came time to tune with the utec, I sprang an oil leak.

It was time I called it quits and let the pros take over. I made a few decisions at this juncture. Yanked the utec, hal is throwing in a Haltech, Dropped the Nismo for APS 3" and Injected is fixing the leak and tuning my ride.

Here is my setup so far. I am not looking to set any records just a reliable stock block tt... for now

JWT 530bb TT (SFR)
Dwerks 600cc Injectors (Performance Factory)
Walbro 255
Haltech (injected)
APS 3" Exhaust (injected)
Titek Downpipes
Greddy RS BOV (Forged Performance)
JWT Clutch & Flywheel (Forged Performance)

My next step will be a Built injected shortblock, 700bb, rfs, 1000cc, ATS Twin Disk and push the limits of a what Hal can do on their base motor with the Haltech.

My only concern is the FD, my car being a purely street car, should I keep the 3.5 FD or switch out to a 3.3FD with a aftermarket LSD.

Pics, Dyno, Vids to come. This may be early, since my car is due to be out of the shop this week, but it is hard to find the time to sit down and have a long drawn out post!

ADDED A few other goodies since it was down too long.

Motordyne Spacer
Nos Fogger System triggered from Haltech... Not Sure what jet to spray, but I wont be spraying often until I get my built motor.
Boost Solenoid for Haltech.

Also vote to keep the 3.5. If you're going with an aftermarket LSD, I think the one you choose may determine which gearset you end up using. (e.g. I don't the ATS carbonetics will work with the 3.3)

Marty may have me talked into a NX fogger system as well to top off my recent expansion of power. Ive always loved N20 might as well make it part of the Z, we will see.

I would stick with the 3.5 FD. I have 305/30/19 Toyo R888s on the back, and I still can't put all of the power down in first gear without spinning the tires. Also, the 3.5 FD worked well at Sebring.

Marty is saying Wed or Thursday, I am keeping my fingers crossed. I kind of lucked out living 45 minutes from the shop. Looks like the N20 will be on hold until my next trip to the Lex.

I am bringing down my front bumper Thursday no matter what, hopefully i can get outta work early enough to make it there.

? you do realize that the 3.3fd is a taller gear and would cause less spin

I think the concensus is that once you break 450-500rwhp mark with a turbo setup, the 3.3FD is almost a must.

Mine is going in tomorrow or thursday....maybe I can get some use out of 2nd gear.........a little......on pump.....
And use 3rd with the race gas tune....

Big plus is i won't have to shift out of 4th in the 1/4 on pump gas (I think lol)

here are some pics from my DIY.

Like i stated before I started this project in my friends garage, its kind of an odd feeling knowing you spent 40+ K on a car and you are ripping out the engine.

Thanks Don for choosing us, we are excited for the build Things are coming along nicely. The car has taken it's first breath on the Haltech, and I believe the oil leaks have been solved.

We will keep you posted - and sounds like see you tomorrow night with the bumper (and intake hopefully)

Thanks Hal, I really appreciate how well you guys have taken care of me. I have had too many poor experiences with Cincinnati local shop and it is nice to find someone close by that can really help out.

What was the oil leak coming from if i may ask? I am guessing hack job on my part as far as oil feed to the turbo.

I think I sent the intake down there in a yellow bag along with all my other parts. If not i will look for it here.

Two leaks were identified where AN fittings were installed on ss hose. Also the steel line coming from the turbo was loose (where did you get that piece from...?). The hose inside the two fittings we replaced did not appear to be cut straight, so I fear the other fittings..

I will check the bag for the filter.

+1 I was leaning over their shoulders while they tuned my Procharged Z and installed alot of misc. parts for me over 2 days. Never once did any of the guys there give me any trouble for being such a nuisance. I'll definitely be going there when my motor finally lets go...then it's time for a built one!!

OP...you're in good hands...enjoy the extra power!!

Yes, that piece was custom... like you can tell we are not very good at custom!

The hose issue, that is a damn shame. I cant blame my friends but I sure can kick them in the ***** a few times for crosscutting the hoses.

Yes, the bag has the spark plugs, Greddy BOV and flange, and filter i think.

Awesome work gentlemen. It was nice to meet Hal and Greg. Hal your car is awesome, cant wait to see it all finished.

Marty as always, a pleasure! However, I must get back to drinking.

Funny aside, my drunk gf wants to have a threesome with me and Sarah Palin! I am all in... who can hook this up. Its 930 and time to cut her off.
