interesting bad built motor thread on G35driver.......
let's give props to Booger, who called out GTM very early on and was banned for it by people who were...wait for it.....GTM customers themselves.
Booger, take a bow.

oh, I should point out that Senrty 65 was the big GTM defender even back then and felt the ban should be permanent.

This thread is going to make many people unhappy-some of which I have a true respect for even though we havent always seen eye to eye. What Im posting will make many people/shops/nuthuggers unhappy, but that pales in comparison to the money people like me have spent on something at least 2X when one time done right would have sufficed.

The silence is deafening.
And for the record, despite my "douching up" of the thread about 10 pages back, my point stands - threads get closed not because of people expressing views or trying to "stir up the hornets nest", but because people who write the checks wish it so. Its not hard for a moderator to click a box and delete a post or 20 and keep a thread open. Are you trying to tell me they're that lazy that they just have to close the whole thread?
But I was wrong. I admit that this time, the community has learned something. A few years ago everything needed sleeves. Huge headstuds. The most expensive everything. Everything from the big shops was bulletproof. Everything not tuned by the big shops was a ticking time bomb. I caught all sorts of hell a long while back when I posted that my engine build was being done by a local machine shop and my tuning by the same. I caught the hell from shop nuthuggers, most of who only know how to pull out the credit cards to get any work done on their car - not turn a wrench.
The community has learned something. There is no gospel in this world. Something is not a concrete truth just because it has come from a paying vendor. There are people with hidden agendas here. I was wrong.

However, the reason this hasn't been closed is because it involves a super-moderator who is pretty well-liked on this forum.
I'm also convinced something like this was bound to happen. You can't keep sweeping dirt under the rug and expect nothing to happen. This community is wayyyyy to small for that. I guess it just took a while for it to happen to the wrong person.

i agree.. this was bound to happen. threads should not be closed.. the shops in question don't feel the burn until things like this are actually posted. true colors show if they actually fix the issue without pointing so many fingers.
VTR is another shop that deals with VQ builds.
Sharrif much further south than I'd like but have been looking at his SB packages.
Jeremy from PF is moving further north which is another option I'm looking at.
Headgames is based out of NJ but haven't heard of them doing any actual engine builds just heads.
If you know of any others fill me in
Damn I don't know how some people can sleep after pulling **** like that on people(GTM). I mean he messed up he SHOULD own up to it... Yes it will cost him some money but he gets so much business I don't think it would matter and also that would show that his shop is reliable and backs up what they sell bringing in more business. If a shop messed up on my car and then agreed to fix it I would take my car back to them because I would know they are honest. That is the problem with the big boy shops they start getting money hungry and forget about morals so they crank out as many motors, FI installs, etc. as possible and don't give two ***** what happens after it leaves there shop.
Romey I am sorry to hear that man hopefully who ever is at fault will honor their word.
Alberto that is some good information I have always learned a lot from you and hope you continue to help us all. Sorry for all your troubles also with all the money you had to fork out for GTM's mistake. This is why I respect you tho Alberto because given this whole situation you still hold back on the name calling and insults something not many on this board would do given the same situation.

MRC outsources their engine build as we can see from this fiasco.

Romey found another builder close to him to do the tests.
Eveyone talks about "one stop shops" but they are INCREDIBLY rare and near impossible to put together well. IMO The problem is you have guys who aren't engine builders and machinists trying to act like experts at it. Mechanics and tuners aren't engine builders and visa versa. I would rather have someone who machines and assembles motors for high HP applications day in and day out build my motor. And in the same breath Im probably not going to let them do my fabrication, installation, or tuning.

Most shops outsource their builds. My work was done at Function:Tuned but my motor was built by Justice Racing Engines.

Read this thread. Do the math. Do you think some of these people are not just seeing you for what you are to them (ie. a paycheck)?
https://my350z.com/forum/forced-indu...rocharger.html
Dude just wants a safe, reliable setup without going for crazy power. George stumbles all over himself trying to convince a guy he needs a $2k+ Haltech to control a fawking $3k procharger kit, or else his car is going to stumble, stall, blow up, kill his first born, etc. A utec is simply unthinkable.
If you are ok with inconsistent hot/cold starts, hiccups, and an assortment of other annoying problems, then go with the utec, it will be the worst $700 you ever saved.
I would never run a piggy back in my car, but thats just me.
Thats how stuff like mandatory sleeves, huge headstuds, extreme duty pistons happens. Because the shops will it to be so, and the masses follow them. Only when people suffer and share, do we learn the truth. We are making progress, but a lot of people have taken the hit to the wallet in the process as we all have seen.
EVERYTHING from EVERYONE with a highlighted user name on this site should be taken with a grain of salt. Are there good people among them? Certainly! There are also those who will bleed you dry. You have to use judgement! We have to share the truth. We have to stop the politics, and people MUST stop sticking up for shops just because they've had good experiences with them when their experiences with them are not relevant to the situation at hand.

to me the biggest thing is the lack of admitting even the remote possibility of fault on their end to rather use the quick "blame it on someone else"...
Yes problems do happen, but you cant be so arrogant to think you cant make a mistake... blaming arias, darton, rc, evans or even hks is not the way to go. IF they are all about the customer they should just say "lets me have hate engine back and ill get it squared away"...thats it..not dance around the blame game, wasting the customers time just to try to "get back to the other shop".
And another thing is also the issue with the cams, it looks to me like an attempt to make profit in this case... not the way to go.
I dont think its "their livelihood" whats in question here, i dont doubt they can put out quality products/work, but rather the "attitude"(in particular to r0mes motor)..which is coming into light in the thread.
IMO showing that you are human, that you care for the customer more than making a buck, showing how you stand behind the products , showing how you fix the issues when you ran into problems is all better PR than pretending to be "the only ones".."the perfect ones" "its someone elses fault"
