Obviously, Chris chose not to follow that advice. So what's the point in asking this question when the decision has already been made (again) to do otherwise?

Therein lies the problem.

LOL!

If anything, now is a GREAT time for anyone that needs VQ headwork done done by Dave at Headgames.

Do you remember the % increase in CFMs he got on the bench after porting?

Went to mount my subs in the Wicked CAS understrut fiberglass box and FAIL .

I had test fit a single hole and it was fine, but the other two wont let the sub sit flush in the mounting ring. I just spent an hour and a half sweating my a$$ off in the garage trying to dremel things out to fit. Nothing in this dumb a$$ car works the way its supposed to the first time .

I've had enough for one night. I will start again in the morning. It will probably take me another 5 hours to get all the dust out of the car now too. I thought it would be just a bit of milling here and there......WRONG!!

I say saw off that stupid strut bar. It'd been proven that it doesn't do any reinforcing! With the extra room, you can get a sick custom fiberglass sub box in there.

Horrible advice. Do you seriously think Nissan designed the rear strut tower bridge just for looks?

Build a bar into the box and make the box your new bar.

The strut bar isn't the issue. The holes in the box are a bit too small to fit the subs in them. I'll take some pics in the morning.

Just got notified from Dave and Jim that the cams and heads are a loss. New cores going out to Headgames, springs and retainers are still good and valves may be usable too, but that will be the call of Dave at Headgames. Turbos shipping out to Blouch tomorrow for rebuild.

Yes I do and it's not MY advice; there was a lot of talk about the rear strut bar being functional or not and lots of people/shops had made their conclusion that it's not functional. You've been around long enough. I thought you would have come across that discussion already. You can sorta see why they didn't put that bar in the 370z? Most people remove it completely to put a cage in instead of connecting a cage to the bar cuz the bar's not at the best reinforcing spot. I can go on all day about this but I'm sure we all can do our own research.

Time to stay away from the FI forum and nip pick on everyone's post and start learning more about other things? I know you're going to start using the Search feature and pull a bunch of threads/posts to try to move me wrong so you'd sound like the ultimate FI star again. Please do I'm not here to take over your glorious spot.

Quick OT

Only time people have removed it, is to make room for a cage that would reinforce the car more anyway-many end up running their own strut reinforcements. To simply remove it, to make room for anything else (especially a stereo) has yet to be done in the almost 6 years Ive been on this bich. It wouldnt surprise me if some tacky car show guy did it though...

This is the issue, the sub doesn't sit flush on the mounting ring. I had the box painted (which I am now ruining), but its not just paint or filler that is making the fit too tight, its the wooden mounting ring that is too small. I am making an impressive mess of my car .

And IMO...that should be the only reason to remove it. Remember Chris...you are adding tons of extra TQ that the car was not designed for...you should be adding stiffness, not removing.
