Default Vortech Intercooler Discharge Pipe Fitment

Guys....Need some help

Discharge pipe from intercooler doesn't seem to fit properly. Re-positioned/re-installed this thing several times over the weekend and no matter what I try, can't get things to fit right. It appears discharge pipe is approximately 2" too long.

Any suggestions are welcomed......Thank you

PS.....Intercooler to pipe connection bottomed in coupler. Cannot be inserted any farther.

Well here is mine, hope it helps. It almost looks like your intercooler is off center to the left but you are using the proper bracket so it must be right. Is it for a rev-up or non rev? You could always cut the pipe.....I would make this a last resort though.

are you sure you have the correct end of the cast pipe pointed down?
Can you take a pic of the piping leading from the tb down to the cast pipe?

looks to me like the discharge pipe needs to be clocked counterclockwise some and then pushed up, coupled to the cast pipe that will get pushed up a bit.

looks like the cast pipe has to come up, its pushed to far down. that was one of the worst couplers to put on for me

You're correct that the cast pipe needs to go up....Somewhat of an optical illusion but I wanted to put things in perspective relative to the position of the discharge pipe, chassis and cast pipe. I played with this SOB for a couple of hours on Saturday, left it alone and went back to it on Sunday. Just doesn't want to fit no matter what I tried. In my opinion, to clear the inside of the chassis, the pipe needs to be 2" shorter where it attaches to the intercooler.

If the pipe on inlet side of the cooler didn't fit, then I would say the cooler wasn't positioned correctly, but that pipe fits like a glove. This is so frustrating.....

FYI....Called Vortech.....350Z and G35 pipes/plumbing, all years and models, are identical in these kits. This is a 2006 Rev-Up installation.

Appreciate the photos, but really difficult to guage the length. I would need an actual measurement.....Your powercoating looks awesome though!! Thanks for the assistance....

Discovered that the intercooler provided with the Vortech kit has a label with Turbonetics part#T-34926. After looking at several pictures of Vortech installations on the forum, it is obvious that Vortech changed the third party supplier they were using for intercoolers. The end tanks are completely different on the Turbonetics compared to prior coolers.

Now this has me wondering if the overall length of the cooler is different. The Turbonetic measures 26" overall.

Does anyone have a Vortech intercooler handy that they could measure and provide dimensions?

I'm beginning to think that the problem isn't with the piping but the length of the intercooler. It's interesting that if I disconnect the one and only bracket supporting the intercooler (**** poor design in my opinion) and slide the cooler to one side or the other, I can get either side to fit perfectly, but not both together. Could the Turbonetics cooler be too long?

hmmmmmmm you might be onto something. Take that cardboard off and snap a pic.

My Ic says spearco on the end tanks and had a turbonetics sticker on the underside of the core.

your endtanks look more square.

Where did you get that intake for the blower? Will they fit a G35?

I had a guy custom make it for me. Its just 3" exhaust pipe and then I polished it.

you just have to push all the connections closer together. mine was a tight fit just like that. you just need to work the couplers more.

thats the correct IC. its install error at this point.

Everyone thanks for the help......Tried bottoming the connectors last night and it did help, but still doesn't fit correctly in my opinion. A kit worth $4600 should fit like a glove and this thing is taking way too much playing with. I sent off a couple of e-mails to Vortech.....We'll see how responsive they are and how customer focused Vortech is. Wish me luck....

believe me, everytime you take the piping off and put it back on, it will fit better.

after 3 reinstalls, it all fits like a glove now. guaranteed your all of your pipes are not clocked correctly.

i would take the IC off, connect from TB down to the IC. Then connect from blower to IC. then put in the IC. do not tighten any of the clamps. you will prolly need 2 people to push the blower charge pipe on far enough.

also, if you are getting frustrated with just the install wait til you start have CEL and tuning issues, of the blower starts leaking oil. Then the fun really begins.

good luck.

Thanks for the advice and words of encouragement.....Your procedure isn't as per the installation manual, but anything is worth a shot at this point. What's a couple more hours of playing with this thing. Glad this is the $4600 genuine Vortech kit, not the $460 knock-off on Ebay.

I'm think I'm going to slit my wrists right now....only kidding.

I recall having the same problem with my install. You just need to keep playing around with that pipe. It will line up. Try pulling it out and reinstall it. If I lived nearby I'ld come over and help you out. Maybe someone here can give you a hand. Good luck.

Have you tried disconnecting the pipe from the intercooler side, and connecting the other pipe up top first. That's how I did it.

Final resolution to problem.....Remove 2.5 inches from the end of the cooler discharge pipe. Everything fits perfectly now....

FYI....If you are having or have had problems attempting to get this pipe to fit correctly, contact Vortech. Maybe if they get enough calls, the engineer that designed the system will need to put his/her "thinking cap" back on and make a pipe that actually fits the first time.

After much "arm twisting", Vortech is providing me with a new pipe reduced by 2.5" with the end roll beaded.
