Default built head problem..... pics and vid inside.

hey everyone. I bought built heads off of a member on here. i inspected them when i got them and have a few questions....

first off, they're sgp built heads with ferrera 1mm oversize valves, jwt s2 cams, ferrera valve train.

now, when i got them and inspected them, the valves arent shut all the way like normal valves usually are. so i figured, maybe the cams are stuck holding the valves open.... no. i checked out all the cams to see how they were set, all were fine but one. one cam has lots of play in it. check out the attached video to see what im saying:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/VcoFf8qAIlk&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/VcoFf8qAIlk&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

so it looks as tho the valves are bent. but im no expert here so i took pics and attached them too. they dont seal all the way to the head which trips me out. check out the attached pics and let me know what you think.

now, before you go and say, "dude you got ripped off from some member here on the forums. thats F'ed up and etc.." i have already spoken to the member on this board and hes being very cooperative here with figuring out what agreement we can come to.

so what do you guys think about this? bent valves? something else?

Those heads are bogus. The valves are bent. These should not have been sold as good heads! If you need some help let me know.

in your pics it looks like the intake valve are bent. But its hard to tell. In your video that is the intake cam that has play in it. That aint right at all. My guess is that the intake valves have some problems.

If the seller is being cooperative, you should just return them and get your money back. You thought you were buying good heads, but these things are going to cost you your other arm/leg to repair.

$2 - 4K - I know from experience. Thats if the heads can be saved. Oh and the valves are stupid expensive as well, I had to replace just one thank goodness. Buckets are like $20 each as well.

Which side head is that. I have a 04 head with only 29k miles on it. I can sell it to you.

i have completely stock heads that are already disassembled. i bought these because they were already ported, polished, came with s2 cams, ferrera valve train and ferrera valves. i THOUGHT these were going to be in good working condition.

i got a quote from someone that disassembled my stock heads that if i provide the valves, he'll do the rest of the assembly for 400 bucks including new valve guides etc..

so i figured new valves on these heads couldnt cost 2-4k.

am i wrong? i cant just get new valves and have them installed on these heads? afterall, the seller has agreed to do this option.

i paid 1600 for these heads. with that i got jwt s2 cams, a port and polish job, ferrera valve train, and bent ferrera valves. sucks.

Get your money back. Don't let the seller "agree" to help you with the cost. There is no way the seller did not notice the valves stuck open and the cam play!! You don't have to be a mechanic to know that sh&% ain't right.

Of course he has, that is the cheapest fix. The cam core may need to be fixed, the head may be warped, the valve seats probably need changing and the springs need to be checked. AND you might as well have the cams and the heads checked for cracks.

Why do you think you got such a good deal. Don't these cams run around a grand alone? The key thing is if it seems to good to be true, it usually is. Sorry to be so harsh, but I recently got scammed on the net for a transmission and the original seller seemed very nice and was very convincing.

GET YOUR MONEY BACK AND HAVE THE WORK DONE TO YOUR HEADS!!!

Just passing on what I paid to have the exact same setup re-done the right way by Headgames. Sorry man.

no worries. im not offended at all. im just trying to figure out which way i want to go with this, and how much it will cost.

first step is to find out how much shops will charge for a revalve. i already know my machine shop friend will do an assembly for 400 bucks. just need to find out how much 1mm oversize valves are going to cost me. then either take it to my machine shop buddy, or give the work to another local shop; speed force racing, or gtm.

with my stock heads, i planned on doing jwt s2 cams, port and polish job, 1mm oversize valves and upgraded valve train. this kind of jumped me ahead but now it has set me back with bent valves. so i need to get a feel for what things will cost to get me back on the right track. or we'll take a different route.

Sorry for being a noob...but what the heck would cause all those valves to get bent like that?

Just a random guess, but it seems like something really bad happened...and I would also randomly guess that alot more is messed up than the valves.

It's nicely documented - good job on the original post. There is no way out for the seller on this one. I would not trust even the other components unless completely taken apart and inspected by a pro (Sam or Tim in your area).

Although you might be out shipping, the headache down the road may not be worth trying to salvage this. No one is going to stand behind those heads with piecemeal work - keep that in mind.

Dean, I'd recommend SFR. Tim really stands behind his work. I have no experience with GTM, but they seem to be standup as well.
