Deatschwerks 440cc maxing out at 350hp? Should I upgrade?
I have the old cored Deatshwerks 440cc injectors which only flows 400cc I believe. I've been told that these max out at around 350-360 hp... is that true? I have an STS kit, along with testpipes, plenum spacer, HKS EVC, and after my tune this Tuesday, I hope to be putting out at least 370hp. I do not want to max out the injectors and would like them to stay around or close to 80% IDC for reliability reasons. Is this attainable or should I just upgrade them now to 600cc before the tune? 600cc seems like overkill, but a FRS costs just as much. I would love to stay with the injectors I have now, but if they are only going to put out 350hp or so, then I might as well upgrade them now and not have to pay for tuning twice. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Haven't had the car tuned yet so I have no idea what my IDC is. Everything was just installed. I just don't want to find out when I get it tuned on Tuesday that I need bigger injectors and therefore a retune. I would like to have everything done before if need be.
i can understand your concern. it depends on your future plans with the set up really. if you just want to make that much hp, you'll have no problem doing it with those injectors. i made 405 with stock injectors, stock pump, just added vortech fmu, inline pump, and ss box. it was reliable as heck. my injector duty cycle was probably outrageous (never got the true reading) but it worked fine for that set up. now, if i wanted to make more than that, i would have initially swapped injectors.
IMO, if you have a stock block and want to keep it under 400, your 440's will do it just fine. depending on what you're tuning with, you should be able to see what your IDC's are at. if you plan on making more, get bigger injectors. but then, over that much you'll need to upgrade a ton of other things.
just food for thought. those injectors will defiitely handle 380whp no problem. thats just my opinion tho. someone elses may differ.

If the smaller injectors can work, keep them. When you go with bigger injectors that necessary sometimes you run into problems with idle control. After rebuilding my engine and going with DW 850cc injectors I had misfire cel whenever the engine was left idling for a short period of time, We changed to DW 600cc injectors which only run @ 2% injector duty cycle while idling. Thottle response is much better and the motor got better fuel mileage and no more random misfire cel. Sometimes( not often) bigger is not always better.
The older DW 440cc (rated at 3.5bar) is going to max out around 350-360whp (Depend on the dyno). I have the old core too and at temp below 50F I'm maxed out to 94% IDC at 8psi and this is with 50/50 Water/Meth. If you are above 90% IDC in the summer then that is not good because once it get colder you will need more fuel.

OP, I think you'll be fine around 360whp. I have been running 90%-93% IDC for 2 years now but I do monitor my IDC very closely especially on colder temp. In the Winter I had to bring down my boost from 8psi to 6psi just to stay on the low 90% IDC.
Dude dont be cheap and skimp out on the injectors bc if 1 fails your motor is history. Even if are able to get 380-400whp out of the 440cc, your duty cycles are past 80% and now u are just asking for detonation bc the injectors are working way too hard. Go big and just have your tuner adjust the fuel for your setup.
I have RC 650cc with clips for sale and it also gives u room for more whp later on if u want more whp down the road.
