Default Compression

Hello guys, Im new to this forum. This question is for the pro diy'ers.
I have a stock 04 350z mt. I plan on building a turbo from scratch on my stock motor. Is my stock compression low enough to run the turbo without changing pistons and lowering compression or do i need to lower compression. What is the boost line and do I need to change my fuel management? Has anybody else done this and gotten good results?

yeah the stock block vq35de can hold 480whp and the stock vq35hr can hold up to 560-580whp. just get the greddy tt and u will be straight. the stock ecu works great for both on and off boost response. i got a stock 04 Z making 450rwhp on th stock block. every time i take it to the track my motor does this

i glad its not THAT expensive to replace the stock block.lol i replcaced my block on twice for over 60,000 miles

Anybody capable of building a turbokit from scratch can answer those questions for you. No need to ask here.

A little research goes a long way... Others in this forum will tear into you if they beleive you are being too lazy to do the research, especially since newbies and noobs keep asking the same questions over and over without putting adequate effort into finding the answers themselves.

Start by reading this thread:

https://my350z.com/forum/forced-indu...for-noobs.html

Then read this thread:

http://g35driver.com/forums/forced-i...-you-push.html

To summarize the preceding threads (this does not mean you should forego reading them!), a stock VQ35DE can generally be pushed to around the 400 RWHP mark, depending on what dyno it is being measured on. Still, when you boost, you are pushing everything in your engine harder and it will not last as long.

The weak point in the stock motor is the rods. These are generally the first things to fail when boosting stock motors. With stronger rods, you can probably get a motor with stock compression up a little higher on premium gas. If you want to get beyond that on pump gas, you will need lower compression, run race gas, or use methonal injection.

That said, HP loss due to lowering the compression is not that significant. When boosting, it is wise to reduce the compression ratio, as this lowers the risk of pre-detonation, which will cause pre-mature engine failure.

For reference, here is link to a graph showing percentage of HP loss vs Compression Ratio:
