Default TN wastegate pipe cracked again (help)

The weld point on the WG pipe has a crack in it again. This is the second time. I would just see if I can go through TN but they are closed til the 10th for 4th of July. Has anyone figured out a way to fix this without just replacing the pipe. So that this doesn't happen a 3rd time to me. This is annoying. I havn't even driven the car very much its been in a body shop for almost 8 months. Any info is appreciated.

If any TN reps are here can you help me out.

The last time this happened the whole wastegate fell off on the Highway. I'd rather that not happen again.

Make sure your piping is not in a bind. Stress plus heat = crack

Well when I put it in the second time I kept everything loose until there was no stress on the pipe cause I figured thats what the problem was the first time so i don't think there was any stress on the pipe this time.

take the pipe to a muffler shop or a machine shop and have it welded. 20-30 bucks.

it's just turbonetic's shitty quality weld that never penetrated through the pipe so it cracked at the weld

This has nothing to do with weld quality, it is a stress point. The weld will never crack, if there is a crack it will always be beside the weld, NEVER on the actual weld itself. Have a closer look at the picture.

This is a very simple fix, just get a flex pipe welded in there. This is why 304 stainless is a bad idea when building exhaust systems or turbo pipes.

One should always use 409 stainless, it is softer (has more flex) and things like this would never happen.

Thats CHEAP! I got hit with a $70 bill for a WG pipe weld

All in all, it is better to have someone else weld it up at this point and do a good job with it

Do you guys knkow if I order the block off plate from TN and just cut the WG pipe(open dump) I wouldn't have to worry about this pipe cracking again would I?

Yes, it would the just dump to the atmosphere. Just make sure you cut the pipe off the wastegate so the exhaust will escape without getting things too hot. Do some searching I have seen some pic's somewhere on here of it being done.

If you have access to plate steel. I would just make your own flange block plate it would be easy.
Edit: Is it the recirculating pipe that is cracked ? If that is the case then yes, get rid of it if you want.

Yeah its the recitculating pipe thats cracked, at least I'm almost positive it is. I think I might even be able to cut it off right where the weld cracked and block off the other side but I'll have to actually take it off before I can figure that out.

I don't think so athens, I'd prefer not to have one sorry. Interesting way to think about it though.

Every TN install I do on a customers car. First thing i do is weld up this pipe in that location to stregthen it. I actually have one of these pipes in my garage already welded that i can sell you but it would be cheaper if you just get it welded. Or you can send it over and ill weld it for you, no problem. Just pay for shipping both ways.

The picture shows the pipe that the wastegate uses to control boost. It's not the recirculating pipe that has cracked. Do what BoostedProbe said and have that pipe cut and replaced with a flex pipe. It should minimize the chances of it cracking again.

Oh sorry, I didn't mention, I got under the car and really looked at it and both pipes are cracked, thats why I was thinking doing open dump. TN has a new pipe for the recirculating pipe, instead of 2 pipes its one with a flex hose on it and it looks a lot stronger but I don't feel like buying both and hoping it fixes it, so I'm just gonna weld the WG pipe and block off the recirculating pipe.

My only question is should I have them weld on a bracket for the WG since it looks like the WG will kinda be hanging there without the recirculating pipe attached. I just don't want this pipe to break again, I'm really tired of fixing it.

Once you get rid of that wastgate recircle pipe and weld that back up, it wont break anymore.
