just curious if anyone elses 350z is like this? i never noticed until i had huge tires and was trying to diagnose an issue with the car not wanting to go straight at all (read, impossible to keep in a lane) when it hooked up on slicks.
i havent really investigated this much yet... but my passenger rear tire sticks out from the quarter probably about half an inch more than the driver side. had the car since new, its never been hit or anything. alignment has been done and didnt help... i want to imagine like the rear suspension crossmember isnt centered on the chassis, but ive never removed it... havent looked yet to see if i can slide it over some, its been the least of my concerns for now.
i just figured i would see if anyone else has run into this or addressed it before i start getting into spending a lot of time isolating the issue to take care of it.
anyone?

Measuring with a straight edge and as close to similar points on the rear panels, I say the passenger side tire is apprx .5in. -1in. out further than the driver side..Body not aligned up properly??
Sounds like you have what are supposed to be both front wheels on one side, and both rear on the other. The Z has a staggered wheel setup, so the rears are wider and stick out farther than the fronts.
I bought my Z used and the tires were mounted this way when I picked it up.

its not in the wheels/tires
I have had other wheels and tires and same thing. Its actually not too out of the ordinary from what I am noticing. Since I noticed it I have been looking for it on other cars and I find that its pretty common. I just haven't looked into the source of it yet and if there is going to be a reason to correct it.

when u got it aligned what did the cross measurements come out to be ie: FL -> RR vs FR -> RL (provided the setback measurements are ok)
If your chassis was not square this measurment would indictate this. Most cars are within 5mm. If this measurement is correct then the body panels are out, if not then probably the rear subfame needs to be moved.
let us know what you find out
PS: IMHO 1/2" is quite a bit. You sure that you haven't left a spacer on one side

I know I have the same problem on my Z.
My passenger rear wheel sits out further than the driver's side rear. I wound up rolling and pulling the passenger rear panel more than the driver's side since I was having rubbing issues with the 305's. It's not a wheel issue, rather than the design/setup of the rear end. Toe and camber arms did not cause it, nor will they be able to correct the issue. It's as if the entire rear end needs to shift a little to the driver's side to even out everything.
Despite it being a little off, the car drives just fine. It's just a cosmetic design flaw that bugs me at this point. If someone finds out the easiest way to correct it all without me crawling under my Z, I'm all ears.

I have never noticed this problem in my car, now I have to go check!
What tire combo and sizes are you running @ the track. Im pretty sure I have a solution to this but havent tried it. BTW-Ive had the same issue, it sucks for times, but sure is fun

I have notived this with my G35 too.
Shorthening the arms may technically work, but you are going to alter the suspension geometry on the right side fo the car as compared to the left side of the car.
this may be the easiest way to move the wheel/tire combo to a more inboard position, but it may not be the best solution.
