Default Well the supercharger is down :(

Well, I finally had my first supercharger related problem. Although not as dramatic as MaxHax or Ravaz, it still has made my car undriveable for now. I'll make it short. While driving around I heard a LOUD bang. I was like "Oh ****, I'm screwed now" I pulled over checked everything, it all appeared normal and the car was still purring along fine.

Cut to this morning, pulled the SC apart and it appears that a bolt holding a pulley on worked its way off. In the process it screwed the inside of the pulley up, the shaft it goes on and I lost the bolt and key that go in there. So now, my car is deadlined and I can't drive it until I get another pulley, bolt and key. I'm going to take some steel wool tomorrow and see if it can be salvaged, but it doesn't look promising.

Just thought I'd pass along the info, with the reminder for all you SC users out there. Recheck the tightness on your bolts, especially those that hold moving parts onto the car. That's like the only bolt I didn't put loctite on, so maybe a little loctite might be in order also.

Here's some pics.

This is an example of what the shaft is supposed to look like.

And... a pic of the pulley. the inside is pretty tore up and I screwed up the outside of the pulley trying to get the damn thing off the shaft. It took me a good 1/2 hour of hitting it with my BFH (Big F*cking Hammer) to get it off and it took a little damage in the process.

Sorry to here that, but hey thats the price we pay for more power. I wouldn't consider that major though, just a set back

Arrrghhh. Nothing worse than having your car break on you.

Good luck with the fix!

... i assume you are going to get a new pulley after you damaged it with the BFH... not sure if i would put a potentially unbalanced/damaged pulley back on a shaft that will be rotating several thousand RPMs..... just a thought.... cuz it could lead to future bearing failures due to balance issues..

what happened? those scratches look like its frrom the key being flung off, and the pulley working its way up the shaft.. and while still being under tension started to wobble and carved out both the insides of the pulley and on that shaft..

hope it gets fixed soon.. good luck

That's what I was thinking... maybe he's been spoiled by the mad power???

All in all, simple fix... your ATI comes with a warranty. Obviously this will be covered.

Good luck!

I could, but I've been meaning to check the tightness on all the bolts and clamps on the pipes. So, my car is completely tore apart right now. Both of the aluminum brackets are off and the only thing supporting the SC in place right now are the hoses. Today I'm pulling those off so I can shorten the output hose from the SC to get everything to fit a little better. When I originally installed the SC I didn't test fit anything, so by the time I realized one of the hoses was a tad bit long, I already had almost the entire SC kit installed.

This is my chance to fix all of my installation laziness and errors.

and yes I have been ruined by all of the mad power.

Well, good news. Procharger is going to cover this even though it's my fault that I didn't put loctite on the bolt. Already got an RMA number and it's going to be shipped out today fedex. Hopefully I should have a replacement by the end of the week.

I suppose that this kind of stuff happens from time to time; I'm just really glad to hear that ATI decided to help you out under warranty!!
