Default Steering shaft w/ APS twin turbro setup

I am a little concerned about how the steering shaft will not go all the way in the univeral joint, after the modifications that are required for the APS install. My end result looks the same as the installation guide picture. Though, I would like to get confirmation from others who have installed the kit. Is this normal and safe? Are there addtional modifications done by others?

The first picture is from APS installation guide, and the second one is from my car.

There is no reason why steering shaft will not go in as far as what it was when it was stock.

This was done to my car and have had no issues.
If you feel that it should/could go in further try using some grease
to get it to go in further.

Might need to pry open the knuckle a bit, but as was stated previously, there is no reason why it should not go back into its normal position.

I either need the stock knuckle ground down a bit more or I will need this:

My steering knuckle is hitting the turbo or manifold when the car is cold and I make a right hand turn . No big deal, but just annoying a bit.

Did it sit in all the way for your setup? What I am trying to ask is that according to the pictures does that look normal? Having that much sitting out?

if your z is 2006 its will not fit
the only way is to get GTM lower joint and also GTM needs some modifications to
fit with APS kit

I know I posted in this thread and stated I have had no issues.
Well I guess I put my foot in my mouth.

Today I pulled my motor and the shaft will only go in as in the pics stated by the op which is like 1/4" BUT is not that it won't go in any further its that the lower shaft has no movement (as in rigid) as its suppose to have from factory where it should be able to move up and down and seems to be stuck in the up position. I have spoken with a few people and they all stated that the lower column shaft should be able to move up and down to a degree.

Has anyone else encountered this before? what has been done to fix it apart from ordering the lower shaft which is almost $200?

i ground my steering knuckle at least that much and I can slide it all the way down to the steering rack, no problem.

grinding would be independent of the movement.

Remove the bolts from the knuckle completely and it should go in.

Your lower shaft might have gotten push back up into to the upper shaft at some point during the installation process? Was the engine removed?

Yes that is what I'm thinking.

Engine was removed by both ATXmotorsports and MRC when I got the APS kit done and now it's been removed by me to install my new built motor.

Is there anyway to push it back forwards or am i SOL and have to buy a new one?

Would like to get it resolved while my engine bay looks like this

When I ground down the Knuckle, the one bolt was hitting, so decided to make the bolt head a little smaller as well. Worked out great for me. Then painted the bolts/knuckle with a rust protection spray paint to help prevent rust of any sort.
