I posted this in the Drag racing forum as well, but that forum seems to get little traffic. Figured this would be the next best bet.
Looks for a block adapter, not a bell adapter unless I can still run a standard Chevy torque converter.
My post in the other thread:
-----------------------------
Ross doesn't make the adapter anymore, and I'm not sure where else to look.
Car is an S14, so I wouldn't need a trans mount or anything. Just the adapter and flywheel.
Anyone know of any other companies that make the adapter and flywheel that is needed?

Is it a block adapter or a bellhousing adapter? I'd like to use a block adapter so I can use the torque converter and powerglide I already have. I'd do a bell housing adapter as long as I can use a standard Chevy torque converter. Any pics of your setup?
It is a block adaptor that attaches to the TH400 bellhousing. I have some pics.i wil upload them when I get a free moment.
Drag S14, I agree - from personal experience, I would never use a bell housing adapter again. Block adapter is only way to go. Call us, 859-224-0461, and talk to Greg.
Tim, I'm curious to see your pics/prices as well. Is this something you developed? Has it been tested/proven? Reason I ask is... I believe Jeremy? used a ross/other adapter and complained of problems with it not being 100% true and bearing problems etc

I talked to Jeremy a while back, but that was about 3 years ago, before I wasted all the money building the SR20. Would've been a fun car, but not reliable at the 800+ whp level I was wanting. The VQ should be much happier at that power. At the time, he didn't mention anything about bearing issues, just that the RMR adapter needed a ton of work to make it fit. That was also RIGHT after he got it installed though, so who knows how it was with some time on it.
MazWorx did my adapter for the SR20 -> PG, but it looks like there are already some mass produced pieces out for the VQ.

I believe the Ross is a 360 Degrees Adapter, which means you definitely need to cut it down or in half.

Just an update...
It looks like my MazWorx SR20/PG flywheel may be usable on the VQ crank. The bolt pattern and hub diameter is the same. I bought an OEM flex plate to rob the timing wheel off of, but may just try stacking the MazWorx flywheel on top of the OEM wheel and seeing how that all lines up. That would eliminate the need for any kind of sensor wheel or starter adjustments. Basically, I just need to toss my crank back in the block and do a test fit of everything. I have my trans sitting here, along with enough of the engine parts to test it. Just waiting on my OEM flex plate to show up, and an adapter plate. Maybe my $850 MaxWorx flywheel won't go to waste after all, and I'll be able to afford to get it all together that much sooner
If somehow the VQ starter lines up with the ring gear on the MazWorx flywheel, and the height is right, I'm just going to swap the timing ring over, as I think that would make the cleanest install. Anyone know off hand the diameter of the VQ ring gear?
Greg, consider that Ross adapter sold. I'll be in touch with Hal later today.

Eh, it didn't. Never got much further than my last post. I have somewhat abandoned the VQ build. Had some expenses come up, and wasn't going to have the money to get it all done any time soon.
I do have the Ross adapter plate still. I'd sell it if you were interested. The MazWorx flywheel, while being the right bolt pattern, as wrong as far as thickness and starter gear placement. Stacking wouldn't work with the OE flex plate. I had a trigger wheel machined to bolt on to my ATI crankpulley, and was going to use that for the trigger input, but still could not work out a flex plate solution. I contacted a couple different shops that claimed to produce a flex plate, but got the run around from everyone. Only option I could come up with was designing one myself and having it custom cut from billet, but I do not have the money required for a one-off run like that.

I was interested because I want to use TCI's new 6X auto 6-speed. If i am correct the th400 and the TCI 6X are the same. This is why I am looking into the adapter plates and everyones build.
InjectedPerf... Can I call you if I have any questions about this?

I already had a full PG setup from my SR20 project, that used all standard Chevy parts. Although more expensive initially, it allowed for easy and cheap converter changes. I could call Summit or Jegs and have a different torque converter the next day. A custom unit would require it to be cut open, changed, and rewelded. Resale can be another problem. The more custom a part gets, the harder it is to resell. There are thousands of people that would buy a built TH400, or a standard style converter, but how many are in the market for a setup that will only work behind a VQ?
The second problem I ran into, was getting a PowerGlide bellhousing adapter. A lot of shops had the bell adapters for TH400's, but no one had one for a PowerGlide. That makes sense, as the VQ market is almost exclusively Z/G. Those cars are 500-1000 lbs heavier than my car was going to be, so the 3 speed has it's advantages. Myself shooting for 2600lbs or less, a TH400 would be hurting me compared to a PG.
^ These are all soild points. I only drag race once in a while but I would like to use the auto for road racing. This is were the TCI 6X trans with it 6 speeds and paddle shifters would come in handy. So my thoughs were to get the TCI 6X with a TH400 or PowerGlide bellhousing then have the VQ block adapter. I am in no hurry so this is still in the thought process.
