Default Thoughts on the V-band turbos

Anybody have any experience with the Precison turbos that have the V-band in and V-band out on the turbine.

It sounds very attractive, and would be easy to work around when it comes to fabricating, vs the standard T3 or T4 flanges.

Precision offeres the 6262 in that V-band configuration and only with a
.82a/r. It would also be very easy to install and remove the turbo if needed.

Any thoughts or experience with this setup?

Something like this:

We have used them on a few setups now and I love working with them. They make for very easy install, and allow everything to rotate for optimal fitment unlike bolt-on flanges.

Another benefit of the Tial SS V-band housings is a drastic reduction in weight. Beyond shedding pounds off the car, it takes weight off the manifolds and makes them less prone to cracking.

i guess for 1 turbo the huge difference in price (those TiAL housings are $$$$$$), might be worth it.

I'd prolly want to use the extra money on their new ceramic ball bearing turbos.

yes...those tial cast stainless housing are pretty trick! i can only assume they must be made from some special alloy of stainless that has a low thermal expansion rate. I haven't heard of an expansion issues with those housings......like i said, very trick!

Looks like a great setup! The turbo housing looks to be held on with nothing more then the tips of the washers?

Just to be clear, I would not be using the Tial turbines. The picture is just there to show what I mean.

you mean TiAL compressors housing?

your original pic is of a TiAL turbine which costs about 350$ extra. You can get Vband downpipe from PTE directly, but not a V-band uppipe flange (which is what TiAL is offering).

SP uses V-band downpipe PTE's on their builds

No, I mean turbine (exhaust) housing. I will make the call to Precision today, I am sure I have seen them offering the uppipe in a V-band configuration as well.

EDIT:

Found it, got to love google:

This will be a very nice feature to have. It would take one 5 minutes to remove the turbo if needed, or bolt another one up. There is no need for any gaskets or high temp. RTV.

The simpler I can make this the better.
