350z built twin turbo or toyota supra built single turbo
Question came across between a friend and I. He is in the process of looking for a car to purchase so he can build it the way he likes. He is torn between purchasing a supra and building that or purchasing a z and building that(twin turbo built motor of course). He asked me my thoughts of course, so I told him to find a cheap Z and build the motor and twin turbo it. He just feels the supra when done will be a better car with a stronger drivetrain, hold value, make more alot more power per cylinder and be more of a headturner. What are you're thoughts guys? Also hearing from some shops like sound performace would help being they work on both platforms! Also please list the benefits of each car. Thanks!
sorry mods if not in right place..

Supra will cost you more in the long run, but you will get more money back on the Supra if you ever tried to sell later on.
Nicely built Supra's are still going for $50-$60K today.

As a previous mk iv supra owner i can tell you that building the supra is fun...but will hit you real hard on the wallet...in either case i'm sure your buddy and yourself will have fun with both

Thanks for you're opinions very good points! And alberto nah its not dee! He actually sold the built all motor honda and bought a honda s2k and did a nice single turbo on that plus he has the shelby gt500 which he put a whipple charger onto, that monster is making 600 or 650 I can't recall exact numbers
Funny thing both cars are great platforms, however people still underestimate the power levels of the z"s. Everyone automatically see"s a supra and assumes the car is or will be fast as fwk at one point. The only downside I see to the z is the labor to remove and reinstall the motor which I'm sure the supra can't be worse! I could be wrong though

2jz's are bullet proof...great power plant ... The Z can also be made into a monster if built correctly etc etc... I think the Z is way more of an eye turner than the supra... IMO. Does your friend like spooling? U can have a 1000 hp Z that spools like a 500 hp car... Remember there is no replacement for dissplacement

Hmm, tough call there!! As far as the strength of the drivetrain goes, the supra has the strongest one I have ever seen in stock form. That includes vipers, vettes etc. Just a bullet proof drive train. 1500+ RWHP capable.
The stock motor can make 1000 bhp all day, over that you need rods. Of course it will be cheaper to do a supra because it started life turbocharged.
On the Z to make 1000 hp you will need to sleeve the block and build the bottom end. The Z gives you the benefits of a lot more torque due to the extra displacement, variable valve timing and superior cylinder heads.
You can add a turbo kit to the Z and keep it under 400 HP pretty reliably for not a ton of money. This would be a great daily driver because of the torque, more fun than a supra down low, thats for sure. Just remember the supra pretty much is a 500 hp motor from the factory just detuned a little bit. Turn up the boost and put on a few mods and the supra will make 440 rwhp on the stock turbos, fuel system etc.
Both great cars though!!

It doesnt matter, they both cost the same to build and do work on. The Z is cheaper to begin with, the supra makes more power unbuilt.

Alberto hit it on the head with the highway monster vs a more well rounded car.
1000HP sounds awesome....but then drive one and nearly soil yourself b/c getting that power to the ground efficiently becomes a huge issue. Everyone wants "the most power" it seems and imo thats not the correct way or reason to build a car.
I just commented on this SAME thing in another thread actually.
