Mine used to make that sound when I first installed it but my tuner sorted it out & its normal now Probably better for the life of the charger though

hmm, I always have a slight "flutter" when releasing gas t pedal at lighthrottle, but I thought that was normal. WOT shifting produces what I would call normal bpv noise. It's just at very light throttle/crusing that I notice a flutter.

Any soundclips of the "flutter" when the vacuum line to the bpv is blocked?

Here's what it sounds like..

It's on a sr20, but same noise.

^^Thx. for the link. ya, that's pretty loud. I don't have that sound. I wouldn't want that b/c of the potential for damage to the blower due to compressor surge.

yeah thats the conclusion i've come to.

I've read that blowers are designed to handle compressor surge, however not under high boost.

that said, i'd rather be safe for now.

So I ended up swapping to the stock crank pulley (will be posting ATI for sale btw). I do not have a dyno sheet at the moment, so all I have is driving impressions. The car runs better now and is smoother (although it may be the retune), except I still have idle surge that I am working out. The power delivery is more linear and it seems to build to redline, whereas before it would peak at 4500 and fall off. On the street, I now see a max boost of ~9 psi. With the Ati, I saw a max boost of ~12 psi. So it seems the SC is back in its efficiency range.

I'll post the dyno printout when I receive it if anyone is interested.

Good to here jonnylaw.

I myself am still working getting rid idle surge in mine to. I would be nice if we all could compare Osiris Rom maps based on motor type. I would be nice to se what others are doing.

Ok, so I got my graphs, and I lost about 4 psi and 40 whp/trq. with the change in crank pulleys. I am thinking about getting the fluidampr to make up some of that loss, lol, bc it is OD size b/w stock and the ATI. Although I would be overspinning the blower past 6500 with the Fulidampr, it would give me back some of that power and boost I lost, and I would stay out of that rpm range for street driving.

My tuner also had some interesting findings in regards to the idle surge. He said the signal wire and ground wire when slightly tugged on would give false readings to the fcon; so he attempted to crimp the connectors to give a tighter fit between the male pin and the female side of the connector. He also said that when the serpentine belts became loose, the idle surge would come back. Then when they were tightened, it would return to normal. So there may be 2 potential causes for idle surge:
1. Signal wires from map sensor to fcon getting tugged on and giving false readings to the fcon.
2. Loose serpentine belts.

I'm also going to clean my throttle body, but not sure if that's going to help, given my tuner's findings.

damnn..Now I don't know what to do. I kind of wish I never took off the ATI pulley. Now I am having belt tension issues conctributing to my idle surge and I actually lost about 40whp/50lbs trq and 4 lbs. boost.

More money to either buy a Fluidampr or put back on the ATI and install with new belts and retune (likely opt for the Fluidampr even though I like the design more on the ATI and it's about 1/2 lb lighter than the Fluidampr b/c I would be overspinning the stated limit on the blower by 10% at redline with the Fluidampr, while the ATI would overspin the blower by 20% are redline).

low or flucuating boost and wacky AFR would equal loss of HP/Tq

Jonny,

I remember reading about your whole pulley dilemma. I am not sure what your redline is, but I have mine set at 6900 on my RevUp. Now keep in mined I do have my stock sized pulley. This keeps me just under the 110K.
Have you thought about keeping your ATI, and going back to a 95MM on the supercharger? I also think Sam has/makes a 90mm as well.
Now personally I think that 10% is not going to kill the SC. I mean, how often are you are you really running the car a redline.

I'm running stock pulley's and have no issues with my idle surging. I'm also using the fcon that came with the kit.
