I think his setup look a little better than the STS. He swapped the location of the hotside and the cold side. His hotside is close to the WG so this eliminates about 2 feet of piping and not to mention eliminating another bend on the piping going to the turbine.

but what i'm saying isn't even just in reference to it being sts/rearmount etc. A single turbo in general...

nice setup man. I custom fabricated 2 different rear mount kits for my Mazda 6 v6 several years ago, as well as a mid mount kit similar to that of Boosted Performance has for the Z. I was the first person to turbo a v6 Mazda 6. your kit looks good so far, just make sure you take your piping somehwhere to get some hardcore welds on them before you run it, bcause you'll definitely have some boost leak with flux core welds. I used flux core as well to tack weld in the beginning.I would also recommend the Turbo Werx scavenge pump for oil return, its easily the strongest pump on the market! Boosted uses it as well. The scavenge pump setup, I think, is the most important part of this kit. TRUST ME! if you cant drain and return that oil efficiently back to your pan you will have a foul turbo seals at the first startup and you'll be leaking oil into your charge pipes immediately, rendering your kit useless and potentially fatal to your motor. Your doing great so far! let me know if you have any questions about rear mount, i'm sure i can answer some of your questions from previous experience. I'll try and dig up some pictures from the 6forums that i posted on a while ago.

bump for updates, I like the idea that you can unbolt the setup as a whole put the stock muffler on, drop the IC pipe and take the car into the dealer for warranty work

A little WI and you could drop the need for the IC and associated plumbing. By the time the air reached the motor, it'd be back to ambient. Nice work.

had to get the tig/mig gas adapter for my welder and am just starting to play with that - redid the rear pipe a bit more (version 4 i think and welded it all up - better placement of all bits... can't find pics at the moment)

worked 60+ hrs last 2 weeks [and next week ] at work due to getting new computer system up and running AND spent 2 of my last days off getting chased through the forbidden forest &drinking butterbeers at the 3 broomsticks at the soft opening of harrypotter land at universal...

jun 23/24/25th is my next garage time - have been getting psyched reading of recent successes of others going FI!

have also spent 2 recent mornings up in attic installing what will be 2000 sq feet of radiant barrier onto the roof frames - tommorow goes to that too.. trying to reduce the florida (pre-) summer attic temps (maxed at 136 up there today(is now only 84 up there at 0030!)

This is really cool. I am working on the same project on my G35, and actually ran across this after trying to find an alternative to the STS design. My goals on this project were the same as yours as an easy bolt up turbo setup, I'm thankful to have ran across your post.

One or two thoughts/contributions; I am going to have my (main) WG tube attached to the intermediate pipe at the last 45ish degree bend, sending the piping to the passenger side. Secondly, I am contemplating running a WG on both the Hot and Cold side; perhaps 10 psi on the hot and 5-6psi on the cold (with boost controller attached), and having them connect with a Y pipe--> the passenger exit. This would allow for very quick spooling, as the compressor wheel would have reduced back pressure and would hit it's efficiency point faster.

I'm wanting to go with a self-contained oil system also, looking forward to hearing more about your setup.

Long time passes...

& finally cool enough to get back working out in garage

i was absolutely owned by welding aluminum - the alum weld wire is so thin it just continually wads up in the rollers. nearly licked the end of the welding gun to put me out of my misery.

Soooo - i gave up on aluminum and am just running thin steel tube for the intake air.

am running with an 'interfooler' at the moment - wont have to take the front bumper cover off again - can put the intake piece with maf / bov in about 15 minutes

blacked it all out for the stealth / stock look / kept the front aluminum nerf bar but cut the tow hook hole off to make room

my steel mig welds still sorta suck but am slowly improving

might get a handheld aluminum gun for the welder and try that later.

Mostly just having fun in the garage....

finally had a couple of more days in the garage

here's version 25 or so...

and all fitted up

having to redo the intake piping to the front - didn't take in to account that the wheels hanging down move around when setting the car back down

made it from the rear to just behind the front tire - planning to route it from there to the intercooler tommorrow
