Default Some new stuff from BP..pics inside

I have had a number of PM's recently, members asking about the re-circulated wastegate vs open to atmosphere. It seems that some think that the wastegate is open all the time, making a whole lot of noise. This is not the case. The wastegate opens only when you approach it's internal spring pressure, meaning under full load/boost.

Some are still concerned about the noise even at WOT, so with the help of a couple of customers (thank you Vas and Jeff) I cam up with this idea/option for the kit:

It is called "SupperTrapp" and is basically a small muffler/silencer. From the sound clip that Vas provided I can say that it works well and is quiet, as I am able to hear the turbo sucking air in. The turbo is not that loud, so the silencer seems to work very well.

I think this is a great option for those looking at still having an open dump, without all the noise.

I also worked on some new angles for the wastegate going from the up-pipe. This will help a bit with flow with the larger 67mm turbo. As it sits now there is about a 1.5psi (very insignificant) boost creep only with the large turbo, however I am trying to make it 0.

Idea:

Some clean welds:

For those that are learning to weld stainless, get a stainless steel brush and clean the welds. Very easy to do, and sure looks good.

I wonder how much efficiency is lost to the wastegate? That wastegate is 44mm right? I guess it really doesn't matter on a wastegate that big.

Great idea, I'm digging the ingenuity. However, those who are scared of open dumps need to GTFO!

The w/g is not a 44mm, it is the replacement to the 38mm but flows about 6% more. Just an awesome product from Tial, and also much smaller than the old 38mm gates.

From feedback that I have right now, this is more efficient than recirculating. This is going by what the EBC was set at to get 8psi of boost with this configuration vs recirculated back to the exhaust.

looks nice! I like the new wastegate angle. That should help the customers running low boost on the larger turbo.

which supertrapp did you go for, the 3" or 4" disks? I have the 3" with 18 disks on it now and haven't retested it for boost creep yet.

3" with 12 disks. Vas is using it without any boost issues. I don't know why anybody would buy the 67mm turbo to run 8psi though...the 62mm with a proper hot side should get one to 500whp.

I was thinking of the many people that buy a kit for future upgraded built engine. They would run like 8 or 10psi until they get a built engine. Or like me when i was doing my initial tuning at only 10psi for safety reasons.

Pm'ing you some info you can choose to post or not.

That Tial mvs wastegate is an awesome product. I am also using it on another t/c vehicle that I own and it also vents to the atmosphere.

And open dump sounds menacing

^^Thanks for posting the link. They also have them with a 4" disk, this may be needed, depending on the flow.
